Celebrity Chefs

Karl Klein, Olympic Training Center

Offered a lean Salmon Burger on a Brioche Bun with a zesty Asian Slaw. Fantastic. This is a great example of how to incorporate creamy into a burger without losing the acidity. After that burger, I think I need to start training for the Olympics so I can taste more of his masterfully crafted food. Also, he is well-grounded and a personable chef who loves his craft.

Lance Repp, La Valencia

Hands down, my favorite of the day, a homemade Sweet Pea, Spinach and Goat Cheese Ravioli served in a Morel Mushroom and Parmesan broth.…

Casa de Reyes (Old Town)

Casa de Reyes (Old Town)

Went to Old Town on a weekend with my boyfriend, Lemon (alright, it’s just a nickname). Believe it or not, it’s my very fist time to Old Town after years of living in San Diego. It’s a really nice place to go visit and walk around on a weekend. I am definitely going back again for food and a museum visit. Anyway, my focus is not on Old Town, but the place we had lunch that day at Casa de Reyes on the corner of Fiesta de Reyes.

It has a large amount of outdoor seating, and I like that, since there aren’t many outdoor seating restaurants in this beautiful city which has year round perfect weather.…

Opera Cafe & Patisserie in San Diego (Sorrento Valley)

Opera Cafe & Patisserie in San Diego (Sorrento Valley)

A strange name perhaps, but Opera Cafe delivers a stellar performance!

Jorgina had been wanting to try this cafe for some time now.  She had heard about it from a friend a few months ago.  So, we finally made the trek up a couple Saturdays ago.  We are both certainly glad we did!

Opera Cafe

Opera Cafe is located right in the heart of Sorrento Valley.  For those of you unfamiliar with San Diego, SV is a high-tech business area that you likely wouldn’t associate with great food.  I suppose Opera Cafe is out to change that notion!…

Where the Wild Things Are Food and Wine Classic- The Food (Part 1)

I was pretty excited for all the glamour of my first Food and Wine Classic, especially since it’s the big finish for Top Chef except in Aspen, not Chula Vista, for all you fans out there. Tickets are $75 for non-members and $65 for members, which may seem steep, however it includes a shuttle ride, a fancy etched wine glass, all the food and spirits you want, celebrity chef cooking demos, swag bags and more freebies than you can shake a stick at, so it ends up being a pretty good deal.…

BO Beau Kitchen + Bar (Ocean Beach)

BO Beau Kitchen + Bar (Ocean Beach)

It was my friends’ birthday, and one of them requested to try something special and different after having been to several birthday dinners with other friends already. I was scratching my head, trying to find a special place that has great food and a great atmosphere for the birthday girl and boy. We were originally planning  to go to the Himalayan, but they weren’t accepting reservations, and could not guarantee us a table. Then I came across BO Beau Kitchen + Bar in OB. I’ve never heard of it before, but it seemed like a nice place, so we decided to give it a try.…

Wa OKAN (Kearny Mesa)

Wa OKAN (Kearny Mesa)

Wa OKAN is actually located near where I live, and I often pass by it, but I have only eaten there once for dinner. I didn’t even know they offer a more affordable menu for lunch until Michael and Darren took me there. I was so excited to try their lunch set.

According to Michael and Darren, their lunch menu has actually expanded. It took a while for us to finally decide what we were going to order. They have a variety of choices, cold and hot soba and udon, small rice bowls, and up to 12 different entrees.…

The Kebab Shop (Downtown)

The Kebab Shop (Downtown)

It has been a while since Anh and I had gone to get the type of food served at the kebab shop.  I’m actually not sure if we’ve ever gone to a kebab place together.  So it was an adventure to be had!  The front of the restaurant gives customers an idea of what to expect inside and the logo against the brick wall is a nice touch.

You can see the various meats from the window outside, calling your name and enticing you to come in.  Once you get that close the aroma takes over and you may just find yourself ordering something!…

Babbo’s Bar & Grille (University Heights)

Babbo’s Bar & Grille (University Heights)

Babbo Grande, originally located in Hillcrest has transformed into Babbo’s Bar and Grille, now located in University Heights. I have never been to Babbo Grande before, and based on the reviews online, it seemed like their signature dish is crepes.

From their menu (apology for the blurred images, you can also see the menu on their website) , you can see that they feature a variety of food: frittata(open faced omelets), sandwiches, crepes and pasta. They also offer a $5.55 special, which is available from Monday to Friday. I was struggling between the special and the breakfast plates.
