Are you ready for Oktoberfest!?  San Diego Pretzel Co. sure is!  They will be providing many of the fine pretzels you will be consuming at the various Oktoberfest celebrations in and around San Diego.  Elizabeth was kind enough to invite us for a tour and tasting of what many San Diegans will get to enjoy very soon!

The building is in a residential neighborhood but the pretzel stands, truck, and giant pretzel on the wall gave us confirmation we made it to the right place.

Tea Station (Rolando)

Tea Station (Rolando)

IMG_6968

Tea Station has arrived in East County!  Many of you may be familiar with Tea Station in Kearny Mesa or Mira Mesa, but they just opened a new location near SDSU off El Cajon Blvd. about a month ago.  Anh and I got a chance to try them out a few weeks ago to see how they compared to their brother and sister.  It is tucked away on the side of the Big 5 off of El Cajon and College.  The restaurant itself is hard to see but they do have a big sign near the intersection that was easy to spot.…

Blue Ribbon Rustic Kitchen (Hillcrest)

Blue Ribbon Rustic Kitchen (Hillcrest)

One of those (amazing) days.

The other day I got off work with the urge of eating something new and different. Walking around Hillcrest I found a recently opened place at University and Fifth. Blue Ribbon Rustic Kitchen is so new that doesn’t even have a Facebook page, Twitter or a website. That made me upset at first. But just wait so I can tell you how I felt by the end of dinner.

When my friend and I got there they were not busy so we chose a cute comfy booth on the corner.…

Marie Callender’s (San Diego)

Everyone knows the name.  Marie Callender’s.  Famous pies and great chicken pot pie, right?  But have you tried their bbq?  Before you completely dismiss the notion, read on and then judge for yourself.

They brought back their Backyard BBQ offerings and it only lasts until September 26 so you better get there before it’s too late.  I honestly never have thought to try bbq here before so I was interested to see what was going to come out on the plate.  All of the bbq choices come with a slice of pie.  …

Amaya La Jolla (San Diego Restaurant Week – Sneak Peek)

It’s Tea Time! M.I.Tea Express(Kearny Mesa)

IMG_6794

For those of you looking for a new tea place, look no further than M.I.Tea Express.  It stands for “Made in Taiwan” and they just had their grand opening this last weekend.  They had lion dance performances!  Unfortunately I couldn’t make it but I was able to go three or four times during their soft opening period.  M.I.Tea Express is located right next to the new Zion market off Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

The menu has slightly changed and they offer some food now.  Lots of items to try on the menu huh?  …

Carmen’s Mexican Food

Carmen’s Mexican Food

20130830_192339

It’s been awhile since my last post, but this recent find is very special and I felt compelled to share it!

I’ve been craving chicken enchiladas with a good rice and beans on the side and we found it at Carmen’s, a family-owned taco shop in Clairemont. Located by the old Ba Ren Szechuan restaurant in a small lot next to a liquor store, Carmen’s is not like your usual Mexican taco shop.

The inside is no frills, but the layout was clean and well lit.

You order your food at the counter, but the food is brought out to you piping hot on real plates (not in the usual to-go styrofoam containers).…
