Josefas Cocina Mexicana (La Jolla)

Josefas Cocina Mexicana (La Jolla)

Josefas Cocina Mexicana opened about a month ago and resides right on Prospect Street in La Jolla. This would mark the first time we had Mexican food in La Jolla.

It sits atop Richard Walker’s Pancake House on the second floor, next to Iberico, which is also owned by the same restaurant group as Josefas.

The restaurant boasts a patio outside, perfect to enjoy all of the sights and scenery La Jolla has to offer. There is also a spacious open indoor dining area.

The seating and decor is simple and fresh, while playing up to the Mexican theme throughout.…

Designer Whey

Designer Whey

Designer Whey sent us over a package of their various whey protein products and we attempted to replicate some of their recipes found on their website. There was a time I was incorporating different types of protein in my diet when I was working out a lot. That was a long time ago. Since this isn’t a fitness or nutrition driven blog I’ll focus on the taste, as my tongue happens to be a much more powerful muscle than say my abs lately. Here is a little snippet from the Designer Whey website if you are unfamiliar with whey:

Your body has different needs for different situations.

Prospect Bar & Grill

Prospect Bar & Grill

Darren and I were recently invited to check out Prospect Bar and Grill right in the heart of La Jolla.  They recently did a major renovation to their space and it looked great!  We arrived just in time to see the incredible sunset that makes La Jolla famous.

They’ve got a killer view from their patio and we decided to eat outside on their patio since it was great weather.

Their glass enclosed patio sit atop the second floor and overlooks Prospect St. all the way down to The Cove.  We were also met with live music which is a recurring feature during the week.  …

Apple/Pear Picking at MJ Ranch + Other Random Things

IMG_3355

This post will jump around a little bit so try to stay with me. Michael, Jorgina and the little ones invited Anh and I to join them on an apple picking adventure in the middle of September at MJ Ranch in Julian. No they don’t own the ranch, but it was somewhat fitting that they enjoy going to the place named after them. We’ve never done it before and heard it was a ton of fun. Before I start, I wanted to mention that I wasn’t originally going to do a post on this but I ended up changing my mind!…

Goody’s Sushi

Goody’s Sushi

20140918_134507

I must admit, living further South these days makes it a bit more challenging to find great San Diego food without driving 20+ minutes.  Thankfully, we just found Goody’s Sushi and Grill and it’s not too far away in National City.

Goody’s is located in a simple strip mall and the inside is simple and quaint.  I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but once food started arriving I got more and more excited.

We started off with the garlic edamame.  It was incredibly tasty and the carmelized garlic really made the flavors pop.  …

Events events events! There are a ton of things going on in San Diego this time of year. We got invited to attend The Wedge in Escondido which focuses on local eats, cheese, beer, and wine. There are going to be 25+ cheese and food vendors and 15+ beer and wine vendors for your eating and drinking pleasure. Since we’ve never been to this one before and don’t get a chance to head up to that area often, we figured this would be a good opportunity!

The street festival is located on Grand Ave.…

San Diego Night Market

San Diego Night Market

Last Saturday we got a chance to attend the second annual San Diego Night Market off of Convoy and Engineer Road. About a year ago they held their first event in the Zion Market parking lot next to MIT Express off of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. It was a very tight space, with little parking so we were interested to see how this years event would pan out given the new location.

We were able to park really close by because we came when the market opened at 4:00pm. Last year we made the mistake of coming right in the middle around 6:30pm and it took us a good twenty minutes to find parking.…
