Whole Foods Halloween Candy!

Whole Foods Halloween Candy!

Happy Halloween everyone! This post is dedicated to all the people who can’t get enough sweets. Although I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in a while, it is still fun to enjoy the spirit and to people watch. We were given a gift card to explore Whole Foods to try some of their candies. They prohibit the use of artificial colorings, sweeteners and preservatives found in most Halloween candies. So if you are looking for an alternative to the traditional big name brands, here are a few options.

Walking around trying to find the candy I found some fun Halloween cakes and fall whoopie pies.…

iDessert by Jean-Philippe (Little Italy)

iDessert by Jean-Philippe (Little Italy)

We were supposed to visit iDessert a while back but”due to electrical issues,” our original plans got delayed. Thanks to Mary from This Tasty Life via Instagram, we didn’t waste a drive over to find out they were closed for the day. However, we were able to go a few weekends ago on a particularly warm evening. If you have been to Las Vegas you probably recognize the name Jean-Philippe. I’ve stood in front of his chocolate fountain more times than I can count at the Bellagio. And I’ve never seen so much chocolate move around so close to my mouth without any of it going inside.…

Un Mundo Mexican Grill – La Jolla, UTC

Un Mundo Mexican Grill – La Jolla, UTC

Un Mundo Mexican Grill La Jolla’s newest take on fresh SoCal Mexican cuisine.  They just recently opened their doors a couple months ago in August, but are quickly building traction.

So despite taking 6 years of Spanish throughout Jr. High, High School, and then University, I still couldn’t remember what “Un Mundo” meant.  Pathetic I know!  Luckily Darren knew it meant “One World” and he walked in with his head held high.

Inside the restaurant we were greeted with a pleasant modern setup and blue highlights across the walls.  We met up with Galen (GM) who would be our guide for the evening.  …

Nishiki Ramen (San Diego)

Nishiki Ramen (San Diego)

We were searching for a place to go and heard rumblings that Nishiki Ramen was set to open a few Sundays ago. There was a certain buzz around it and we decided to brave the potential wait for a hopefully good bowl of ramen. They have multiple locations in Japan but this is the first in the US. It is located in the same mall as Mitsuwa Market and Staples in Kearny Mesa.

We thought we were going to beat the majority of the people by going early. I guess people of San Diego really love their ramen as there was quite a line formed by the time we got there.…

Lil’ Dipper – University Town Center, La Jolla

Alright friends, we’ve got a special scoop on San Diego’s newest Ice Cream shop about to make waves across the county.  Meet Lil’ Dipper!

Darren and I had just finished up a great meal tonight at Un Mundo (review coming soon) when we noticed a sign across the street in the adjacent shopping center…. Lil’ Dipper.  Since I always have a second stomach for dessert, we decided to walk across to check it out.  (It was National Dessert Day after all!)

We were immediately greeted by two friendly woman, Barb (the President) and Susan (VP of Communications & Strategy) who welcomed us in with open arms, “Want to try some samples?”

YES!…

Smashburger Revisit + Giveaway!

Smashburger Revisit + Giveaway!

We’ve been to Smashburger a handful of times and even got to smash our own burgers on one occasion! Right now they are offering their Sin City Burger for a limited time until October 26th at all of their locations. Normally it is only served in Las Vegas. In tandem with the limited time offer is a #SinCitySurvivalTips social media campaign where they are giving away a trip to Las Vegas (see details at the end of this post). We also have two burger vouchers to give away!

The sin: bacon, fried egg, haystack onions, American cheese, smash sauce, all on an egg bun.…

Bushfire Kitchen (Carlsbad)

We were recently invited to checkout Bushfire Kitchen up in Carlsbad thanks to a referral from our friend Kirbie.

The competition is definitely heating up in the high quality quick service space.  With the rapid success of competitors like Tender Greens, Urban Plates, and Tin Leaf, Bushfire Kitchen needed to WOW us in order to justify our trek all the way up to North County.  Let’s see if they were able to do that.

The layout of the restaurant is nice and open with warm wood tones.  As we walked in we were immediately greeting by the GM, Eddie, who walked us through their farm-fresh concept.  …

Taste of Old Town 2015

Taste of Old Town 2015

I forgot how much fun Old Town can be. It seems like such a touristy place to go, but it was a treat walking around soaking in the sites and sounds. We hadn’t been to a Taste of event in a while so it was nice to put on our loose pants and get out to conquer as many plates as we could. There were a total of 13 participating restaurants with food and beverage(mostly tequila) samples.

It’s not everyday a food blogger can snap pictures while listening to “Oye Como Va” being played live.…
