Barrel Republic – Carlsbad

Barrel Republic – Carlsbad

In another life I was rather techie. I remember the first time I went to Stacked in Fashion Valley and thought it was the coolest thing to order our custom burgers on an iPad. Psst, I still think it is cool. Of course I’m still a nerd for all computerized gadgets, but I can’t seem to keep up like I once did before. Damn you Gen Z! These days new technology married with food is a popular combination. Barrel Republic is a chain that allows you to try tons of different beverages, without having to speak to a human being.…

Cinnaholic – Pacific Beach

Cinnaholic – Pacific Beach

Cinnaholic is starting to spread its wings throughout San Diego. We previously visited the kiosk location at the Mission Valley Mall with the kids. They sure did enjoy themselves. This time, Michael and I would fill the void of uninhibited excitement the kids would normally bring at the new Pacific Beach location. Besides these two locations, they just opened one in Escondido at the North County Mall and are set to open another in the gaslamp as well. They have grown up and expanded quite a bit since their Shark Tank days.…

Nicky Rottens Bar & Burger Joint – Coronado

I heard of Nicky Rottens Bar & Burger Joint, but never visited before. There are three locations in San Diego, however, two of them are operated independently of the other. The location we visited is on Coronado. I always welcome an opportunity to visit the island.

If sports watching is what you seek, they have you more than covered here with tv’s galore scattered throughout the restaurant bar.

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar is a little hidden amongst the other businesses off of Midway Drive near Valley View Casino Center, aka, Sport’s Arena. Their bright colorful neon sign might pull you in though. They opened in September and it’s part of the same family of restaurants including Werewolf and The Waterfront Bar & Grill, San Diego’s oldest tavern. They serve Hawaiian influenced fare.

I missed the narrow alleyway that leads to the parking lot in the back. Michael flagged me down and helped guide me in.

Once inside you will find a dimly lit restaurant bar with numerous tv’s and an exuberant bartender.…

SNOICE in Paradise Hills, San Diego

SNOICE in Paradise Hills, San Diego

PB140260

Just prior to Thanksgiving, we made a quick trip up to Paradise Hills to check out SNOICE.

*If you look a little closer, you’ll notice my daughter just outside the front door super eager to go inside!  Somehow she knew she’d be in a for a special treat.

SNOICE specializes in snow and ice desserts traditionally found in Taiwan and the Philipines.

They have a pretty cool story.  The founders, Jayrell and Dianne, started it up as a side project of the side of Dianne’s parents’ bakery.

What started out as a pop-up dessert bar has since evolved into a full fledged storefront and viable business.  …
