San Diego Poke Co. – Normal Heights

San Diego Poke Co. – Normal Heights

San Diego Poke Co.

Yes!! San Diego Poke Co. has expanded into a new location located in Normal Heights.

We visited their first Mission Valley location back in July of 2016.  They were one of the first poke places to open up shop in San Diego before it became “all the rage”.

Luckily, we were invited back to try out their latest location.

Their layout is clean, simple, and modern.  To me, this points to the freshness of their fish.

Today I brought along my good friend, Russ, who is a fellow foodie and poke lover!…

Veggie Grill – UTC / La Jolla

Veggie Grill

We were invited to check out Veggie Grill up at the UTC mall the other week.  Tee was back with me on this rotation and she had a lot of fantastic input that I’ll share with you on this post.

VG is located just across from Macy’s and a huge construction area where they are expanding the mall by 90+ stores!

It’s awesome to see the UTC mall continuing to get its much-needed upgrade.

Final Cut Steakhouse – Hollywood Casino in Jamul

IMG_0156

Last Saturday we took our first trip to San Diego’s newest casino, the Hollywood Casino in Jamul.

IMG_0160

The casino is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, which made the impressive structure stand out even more.

Here’s a small portion of their gaming floor.  They have a ton of gaming machines and they are all really new and pretty cool looking (and I don’t really gamble much).

But, we did have a purpose to this little excursion… to eat!

We were invited to dine at Final Cut Steakhouse.

Wailua Shave Ice – Ocean Beach

Wailua Shave Ice

Finally!  Wailua Shave Ice is open in Ocean Beach.  🙂

We’ve actually been stalking them a bit since first visiting them in Kauai a few months ago.

You see they specialize in shave ice that’s all natural and made with fresh fruit!

IMG_6006

They share a co-op space with OB Beans Coffee Roasters which is kind of cool.

This one was to die for in Kauai!

It was still wonderful here, but not quite as much syrup.…

Mea Kwan Thai Cuisine – Eastlake

Mea Kwan Thai Cuisine – Eastlake

As I mentioned in a recent post, I’ve been on a mission to find some new local Thai restaurants to satisfy our cravings now that The Great Thai BBQ is closed.

Luckily, Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai, is within a 25-minute drive.  But, I’d really prefer something closer.

Mea Kwan

So far, nothing locally in Chula Vista has really panned out.  But, there was still one Thai restaurant we hadn’t tried… Mea Kwan Thai in Eastlake.

It’s nestled in a nice shopping center near Proctor Valley Rd.  We sometimes will come out here to pick up pizza from Pizzo’s (future post).…

Admiral’s Restaurant – San Carlos / La Mesa

IMG_3551c

Recently we were invited to dine at Admiral’s Restaurant in San Carlos (just adjacent to La Mesa).

I was excited because Chef Geoff markets his restaurant well.  His message is simple – world class cuisine based off of his wide-ranging experience cooking for admirals, senators, and diplomats (sounds fancy)!

This should be good.  So, I invited my good friend, Tee, who happens to be the Captain of a Navy ship, and a foodie just like me.

Let’s see how they did and if the experience lives up to their name…

Location

Admiral’s is located in San Carlos strip mall just a few doors down from The Trails Eatery.…

The Location

We were recently invited to dine at Red Card Cafe and it immediately looked familiar when I arrived.  Anyone know what this used to be?

This was the former restaurant, Kitchen 4140, which I used to frequent for a delicious brunch.

The location is nestled in an unsuspecting business park just across from the Costco on Balboa Ave.

Red Card Cafe has taken its place over the past year and doing it’s best to impress with their fun sports themed atmosphere and a fresh menu.

I brought along my good millennial friend, Mr.…
