Werewolf – Gaslamp, Downtown San Diego

Werewolf – Gaslamp, Downtown San Diego

Werewolf

What a cool name.  Werewolf!

P1240006

Werewolf is right in the heart of the Gaslamp district of downtown San Diego.  Inside is a quaint and energetic bar & grill that is sure to appeal to many.

Service this evening was awesome and we were tended to by no less than 4 people… all who had different food recommendations.  😉

But, it was primarily Jason and Nick who helped us out this evening.

At least there was consensus amongst everyone to order the wings.  These bad boys are prep’d with lots of love.  …

Great Oak Steakhouse at the Pechanga Resort & Casino – Temecula

Great Oak Steakhouse at the Pechanga Resort & Casino – Temecula

We were invited to dine at The Great Oak Steakhouse, one of the 11 restaurants at Pechanga Resort & Casino. Even though I often hear the name Pechanga all over the place, I don’t think I’ve ever stepped foot in the casino. It’s weird because I’ve been to just about every other casino San Diego has to offer. They had the Chinese New Year decorations in full effect and it made me happy.

The casino itself is a lot larger than I had imagined. We managed to walk around and quickly found the entrance to the Great Oak Steakhouse.…

The Haven – Kensington

The Haven – Kensington

Happy New Year! 2017 already? How many times will I write 2016 until 2017 will feel right? Anyways, I hope 2017 brings you better food, better drink, and more of each of them. 🙂

The Haven has been in Kensington since 2013. I went with one of my friends a few years ago, but have not had a chance to come back since. When that much time has passed it’s almost like trying a new place.

The holiday decorations were in full swing and it’s a smaller, but not cramped restaurant.…

Grater Grilled Cheese in La Jolla

Grater Grilled Cheese in La Jolla

Grater - LJ

Who doesn’t love grilled cheese?  Ooey, gooey, and cheezy goodness always puts a big smile on our face.

Recently Darren and I had the opportunity to check out Grater Grilled Cheese in  La Jolla.

Grater - LJ

This quaint grilled cheese shop is decorated brightly to remind you of cheese!

You order up front at the counter and receive a number.

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar is a little hidden amongst the other businesses off of Midway Drive near Valley View Casino Center, aka, Sport’s Arena. Their bright colorful neon sign might pull you in though. They opened in September and it’s part of the same family of restaurants including Werewolf and The Waterfront Bar & Grill, San Diego’s oldest tavern. They serve Hawaiian influenced fare.

I missed the narrow alleyway that leads to the parking lot in the back. Michael flagged me down and helped guide me in.

Once inside you will find a dimly lit restaurant bar with numerous tv’s and an exuberant bartender.…

SNOICE in Paradise Hills, San Diego

SNOICE in Paradise Hills, San Diego

PB140260

Just prior to Thanksgiving, we made a quick trip up to Paradise Hills to check out SNOICE.

*If you look a little closer, you’ll notice my daughter just outside the front door super eager to go inside!  Somehow she knew she’d be in a for a special treat.

SNOICE specializes in snow and ice desserts traditionally found in Taiwan and the Philipines.

They have a pretty cool story.  The founders, Jayrell and Dianne, started it up as a side project of the side of Dianne’s parents’ bakery.

What started out as a pop-up dessert bar has since evolved into a full fledged storefront and viable business.  …

Musical Pairing in San Diego: Part Deux

Musical Pairing in San Diego: Part Deux

We heard that our friends Barbara and Victoria would be back in San Diego for another special Musical Pairing pop-up dinner, and we were dying to participate again.

Of course, they invited us with open arms and we knew we were back in for a treat at Ruth’s Chris Del Mar.

This time, however, would be different.  We already had a preview of what to expect last time, so the question became “would it taste different” and “how could I customize this to my own musical tastes”?

For this post, I’m not going to dig into the finite details since Darren did an excellent job with this first write up, rather I’d like to explore other options applying what I learned.  …
