Daphne’s California Greek (Mira Mesa)

Daphne’s California Greek (Mira Mesa)

Daphne’s has been around a long time and it’s one of the only large chains that serves Greek food in San Diego. I don’t make it out to Daphne’s very often but do find it helps mix things up when I’m craving for something fast and a little different. They’ve gone through a few ownership hands(as recently as last year) but seem to be embracing their new “California Greek” name by offering menu items like the Cali-Greek Bowl and the Cali Pita.

We were invited to explore the menu and try these new items as well as their classic pita which is only $5 for a limited time.…

San Diego County Farmers Markets

San Diego County Farmers Markets

There are several great San Diego Farmers Markets spread across the county, so when we saw this cool infographic rounding them out, we had to share!

I’ve been frequenting the Otay Ranch Farmers Market at the mall recently on Tuesdays.  We love getting the Pad-see-Ew from the Thai food vendor and lumpia from Gabina’s (5 for $2).

Which Farmer’s Market is your favorite?  Which vendors do you frequent?

Tony Roma’s Gluten Free Ribs and Pulled Pork

Tony Roma’s Gluten Free Ribs and Pulled Pork

Tony Roma's Collage

Tony Roma’s debuted its gluten free pulled pork and baby back ribs at Costco last month here in San Diego. We couldn’t make it out to Costco to meet their Pitmaster Jack Vogt, but they were kind enough to send us over a sample to try.

These packaged items already prepared for you can be hit or miss. What I love about Costco is that most of the ones I’ve tried are actually pretty good. Like others, these are super easy to prepare. If you know how to turn on your oven you’re in business.…

Katsu Cafe – Kearney Mesa, San Diego

Katsu Cafe – Kearney Mesa, San Diego

Thank goodness is all I have to say.  It’s been awhile since I blasted a restaurant, but Teri Cafe was terrible in my opinion.  Granted I haven’t been there in years, but I distinctly remember their chicken was always dry and under season. So, I’m happy to report that Teri Cafe is no longer around and has been replaced with Katsu Cafe!

I’m not exactly sure when they opened since I don’t work in the area any longer, but I decided to check it out with Jorgina and the kids one day while we were furniture shopping.  …

The Great Thai BBQ – National City

The Great Thai BBQ – National City

Finally some legit Thai food in the South Bay!  The Great Thai BBQ is National City’s latest Thai restaurant to open.  Ever since moving South to CV, we’ve been craving the great Thai menus we used to be near: Sab-e-lee (Linda Vista), J&T Thai Street Food (near USD), Amarin Thai (Hillcrest), or Taste of Thai (Del Mar).

So, check this out.  A HUGE Thai Iced Tea!  Better yet, it was really good in flavor and the perfect sweetness to half/half ratio.  I’d definitely order again and again.

This was their version of Tom Yum soup (a popular Thai soup that combines both sour savory).  …

T-Pop Desserts & More (Mira Mesa)

After my friends and I attended the D6 Night Market a few months ago, I guess we weren’t done eating yet. My strategic stomach space planning didn’t factor in an extra food stop. Here I thought I was the crazed foodie. My fellow food loving peoples wanted to stop by T-Pop Desserts & More for, well…more. They were taking me somewhere I had never been before but had heard a lot about. The pictures looked great from what I saw in other reviews, so in the very least it would make for a good presentation.…

Kyoto Japanese Market – Poke Bowls

Kyoto Japanese Market – Poke Bowls

IMG_5735

Kyoto Gift & Food is a Japanese Market located just West of the 805 freeway in National City, CA.  It took us awhile to find this place because it’s touted more as a market, rather than an eatery.  However, I’d say it should be known for both.
IMG_5728

Just inside the market there is a small room in the back which houses their sushi production.  The market is run by a nice Japanese “mom and pop”.  Inside looks like a market you might find on the Island of Maui, with lots of traditional Japanese foods, snacks, and of course sushi.…

Vessel’s Summer Menu at Kona Kai Resort, San Diego

What better way to kick off Summer than with an invitation to visit one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego – Vessel at Kona Kai Resort!  IMG_2058

We were invited to check out Chef Roy’s new Summer Tasting Menu along with a craft beer pairing.  Would it live up to the previous menu (Vessel Fall Menu Review)?

First up was the 48 Hour Pork Belly – plantain powder, sweet potato spaetzle, anise, & bitter chocolate

I must say I loved the presentation.  The pork belly was tasty for sure, and it was interesting to have it spiced with anise.  …
