Bushfire Kitchen (Carlsbad)

Bushfire Kitchen (Carlsbad)

We were recently invited to checkout Bushfire Kitchen up in Carlsbad thanks to a referral from our friend Kirbie.

The competition is definitely heating up in the high quality quick service space.  With the rapid success of competitors like Tender Greens, Urban Plates, and Tin Leaf, Bushfire Kitchen needed to WOW us in order to justify our trek all the way up to North County.  Let’s see if they were able to do that.

The layout of the restaurant is nice and open with warm wood tones.  As we walked in we were immediately greeting by the GM, Eddie, who walked us through their farm-fresh concept.  …

These food delivery service companies really have been pulling me on a string lately. Yes I have enough time to shop and cook. But the idea of saving time when I need to, coupled with my curiosity has forced me to try yet another meal kit delivery service. I wrote about Blue Apron back in August and had mixed feelings about it. This time Anh turned me to Freshly since she was about to give it a try herself. Each Blue Apron meal (serving) cost $6.50 (with the discount I found online).…

Lemonade – UTC Mall, San Diego

Lemonade – UTC Mall, San Diego

I was quite happy to hear through the wire that two Lemonade locations were opening in San Diego in 2015.  I’ve been a big fan of their restaurants for awhile now, but until now I’ve only been able to frequent them during L.A. trips to visit family.  The locations recently opened are in Hillcrest and University Towne Center (UTC).  Lemonade is a quick service modern marketplace restaurant that brings seasonal California comfort food in a whimsical open-space cafeteria setting.

D6 Night Market (Mira Mesa)

D6 Night Market (Mira Mesa)

I got a chance to go to the D6 Night Market in Mira Mesa a few weekends ago held at Mira Mesa Community Park. If there is one thing I learned about these events it’s come early if you don’t like to wait in long lines and potentially miss out on some things that may sell out. This particular night market is named after San Diego’s City Council District 6, which includes Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, MCAS Miramar, Mira Mesa, Rancho Peñasquitos-Park Village, and Sorrento Valley.

Peri Peri (San Diego)

We were invited to a preview dinner of Peri Peri in Torrey Highlands last Wednesday. The restaurant is set to open tomorrow (Saturday, March 1st). Here’s how it all went down!

The restaurant itself is fairly spacious, with 3,000 square feet of indoor as well as outdoor seating in the patio. Having grown up in South Africa, owner William Sussman is hoping to bring the unique South African flavors to San Diego. According to William, peri peri was created many years ago in the 15th or 16th century when Portuguese explorers were introduced to the African bird’s eye chili from the local indigenous Africans of Mozambique.…

Deli SA (South African) in Kearny Mesa, San Diego

Deli SA (South African) in Kearny Mesa, San Diego

Deli SA (South African) in Kearny Mesa, San Diego is a hidden gem.  Tucked away in an unassuming business park, lies a repository of good eats and delicious meat pies.  They’ve been here for over 5 years, but I’ve only discovered them now.  You should too.

Deli SA is run by owner, Graham Perkett.  Over the past few years he has been growing slowly and steadily by word of mouth.  Just recently he was featured in San Diego City Beat, and was recently on the Cooking Channel!  Anyhow, I decided to drop by and see what all the fuss was about.…
