Ever since my old DSLR (almost 10 years!) decided it was time to retire, I have been on a hunt for a more compact mirrorless camera I can take around whenever we eat out or when we go on vacation. The Sony a6300 had my eye and I was one Amazon click away from it being at my front door. I took a took a complete 180 and eventually settled on the Olympus OM-D E-M5. California Pizza Kitchen was the first outing I got to use my new toy and I hope to learn my way around the new controls and features soon.…Read more
We were recently invited to Boudin to check out their new fresh seasonal salads. Since I haven’t been eating as many greens as I’d like lately, this was the perfect opportunity turn things around.
Boudin is a bakery and quick service restaurant that has roots in San Francisco, dating all the way back to 1849! There are upwards of 30 locations today and a few that call San Diego County their home. Today we were visiting the Clairemont location on the corner of Balboa Ave. and Genesee Ave. This is the same mall that is home to 85 degrees.…Read more
McDonald’s is back at it again with new breakfast items! I hadn’t been inside a McDonald’s in a while and the decor looked updated and fresh, perhaps trying to match their new breakfast bowls.
They also are now featuring Chobani yogurt in their smoothies and fruit and yogurt parfait’s.
There was even a display basket at the front showing some of the ingredients that go into the bowls.
These new bowls are being rolled out slowly and Southern California locations are among the first to have them. Here are the Egg White & Turkey Sausage and Scrambled Egg and Chorizo Breakfast Bowls.…Read more
“You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris?” A royale with cheese. A Pulp Fiction scene immediately came to mind when we decided to check out Royale With Cheese during Burger Week, which ended on March 12th. We already were planning on a visit here so it was a bonus Burger Week happened to be going on at the same time.
It was a bright and shiny day in San Diego and people were out and about enjoying this fine city we call home.
Royale with Cheese is a little hard to find from the street.…Read more
Does food taste better when accompanied by music? Our goal for one evening was to explore our senses a little bit further to see if pairing food with music enhances the overall dining experience. Everyone has listened to music during a meal at one point or another. Have you ever found yourself bouncing to the beat of a song in a restaurant, enjoying every last bite? Fodor’s Guide named them one of the “2015 Top Ten Can’t Miss Pop-Up Restaurants Experiences.” To help guide us through our meal was Barbara Werner, the architect behind Musical Pairing.…Read more
We had a good friend come into town to visit us from the Bay a couple weeks ago. Since we were over by the airport, we decided to put our name into C-Level which is usually packed on the weekends. To our surprise we found no wait.
We quickly realized that there was a new restaurant just a couple hundred feet from C-Level that quickly caught our eye. So, after picking up our friend we decided to give the new place a try.
Coasterra is the newest restaurant to open on Harbor Island and they have been operating for a half year or so. …Read more
This is later post as it has been a little busy around here lately. Another favorite of ours is Carnitas’ Snack Shack in North Park. It seemed like yesterday when Michael and I used to go to lunch before there was any substantial seating in the back. Now they have a second location in Del Mar, with parking! That is one of the best things I was looking forward to before I drove up to this location.
Anh and I had planned on ordering the standard burger and tacos but specials always tend to ruin my well laid out plans.…Read more
George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace has been one of my favorite spots to take people from out of town looking to splurge on a nicer meal with a killer view. I’m sad to report it has been quite a while since I last visited. I think my absence coincides with the dismay I felt when I found out they added surcharges for restaurant week items years ago. It was one of the first ones, if not the first one I remember ever doing that. But much like my Wendy’s ban of 10+ years, it was time to let it go.…Read more
