Admiral’s Restaurant – San Carlos / La Mesa

Admiral’s Restaurant – San Carlos / La Mesa

IMG_3551c

Recently we were invited to dine at Admiral’s Restaurant in San Carlos (just adjacent to La Mesa).

I was excited because Chef Geoff markets his restaurant well.  His message is simple – world class cuisine based off of his wide-ranging experience cooking for admirals, senators, and diplomats (sounds fancy)!

This should be good.  So, I invited my good friend, Tee, who happens to be the Captain of a Navy ship, and a foodie just like me.

Let’s see how they did and if the experience lives up to their name…

Location

Admiral’s is located in San Carlos strip mall just a few doors down from The Trails Eatery.…

The Location

We were recently invited to dine at Red Card Cafe and it immediately looked familiar when I arrived.  Anyone know what this used to be?

This was the former restaurant, Kitchen 4140, which I used to frequent for a delicious brunch.

The location is nestled in an unsuspecting business park just across from the Costco on Balboa Ave.

Red Card Cafe has taken its place over the past year and doing it’s best to impress with their fun sports themed atmosphere and a fresh menu.

Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai – Convoy

Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai – Convoy

My family and I love Thai food!  In fact, we probably eat it once per week on average.

We were pretty bummed a couple of weeks ago to find The Great Thai BBQ in National City had closed.  We knew it was coming, but we’d had a void to fill.

Trying New Thai

Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai

Thankfully, a couple of days later we were up in the Convoy area.  We needed to grab lunch, so a quick search brought us here to Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai.

Apparently, it used to be another Thai restaurant but was taken over a year ago by the current family.…

The Westgate Hotel Sunday Brunch Buffet

Sorry for the delayed posts as of late.  We’re going through a few changes at the moment.  In the meantime, I’m going to try to give you some new content which will be primarily made up of pictures and not too many words… which is probably okay, because I know you’re here to eat with your eyes, right!?  🙂

Anyhow, here’s a long overdue post that’s been in the hopper, but you really need to know about.  It’s probably the best brunch buffet in San Diego I know of!

Pokirrito – Kearny Mesa

Pokirrito – Kearny Mesa

Poke! It’s everywhere and there is no stopping it. We visited Pokirrito a few weeks after it opened on Convoy in one of my most hated parking lots on the planet. If you know it, I’m sorry you have had to experience it too. It’s next to Raki Raki Ramen and Tapioca Express.

The line went out the door and people were buzzing about poke!

The menu seems pretty straight forward. You can order two sizes of bowls and customize as you please.

They also offer sushi burrito’s. Yes I know.…

Square Bar Cafe – Kearny Mesa

Square Bar Cafe – Kearny Mesa

Opened in July of 2016, Square Bar Cafe keeps on adding new things to their menu. They have all sorts of drinks, desserts, and even food. Some of them include the pizza bagel, rainbow bagel, and double cups which basically is two drinks in one cup. I know, crazy stuff. But all welcomed in my book. This visit took place before they served any of these creations. So here I am dusting off this post.

When I first walked in and saw the menu I kind of got confused. There’s not much on it, yet my eyes wandered around trying to figure out what to focus on.…

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar – Loma Portal

Banzai Bar is a little hidden amongst the other businesses off of Midway Drive near Valley View Casino Center, aka, Sport’s Arena. Their bright colorful neon sign might pull you in though. They opened in September and it’s part of the same family of restaurants including Werewolf and The Waterfront Bar & Grill, San Diego’s oldest tavern. They serve Hawaiian influenced fare.

I missed the narrow alleyway that leads to the parking lot in the back. Michael flagged me down and helped guide me in.

Once inside you will find a dimly lit restaurant bar with numerous tv’s and an exuberant bartender.…

SNOICE in Paradise Hills, San Diego

PB140260

Just prior to Thanksgiving, we made a quick trip up to Paradise Hills to check out SNOICE.

*If you look a little closer, you’ll notice my daughter just outside the front door super eager to go inside!  Somehow she knew she’d be in a for a special treat.

SNOICE specializes in snow and ice desserts traditionally found in Taiwan and the Philipines.

They have a pretty cool story.  The founders, Jayrell and Dianne, started it up as a side project of the side of Dianne’s parents’ bakery.

What started out as a pop-up dessert bar has since evolved into a full fledged storefront and viable business.  …
