Freshly

Freshly

These food delivery service companies really have been pulling me on a string lately. Yes I have enough time to shop and cook. But the idea of saving time when I need to, coupled with my curiosity has forced me to try yet another meal kit delivery service. I wrote about Blue Apron back in August and had mixed feelings about it. This time Anh turned me to Freshly since she was about to give it a try herself. Each Blue Apron meal (serving) cost $6.50 (with the discount I found online).…

Lemonade – UTC Mall, San Diego

Lemonade – UTC Mall, San Diego

I was quite happy to hear through the wire that two Lemonade locations were opening in San Diego in 2015.  I’ve been a big fan of their restaurants for awhile now, but until now I’ve only been able to frequent them during L.A. trips to visit family.  The locations recently opened are in Hillcrest and University Towne Center (UTC).  Lemonade is a quick service modern marketplace restaurant that brings seasonal California comfort food in a whimsical open-space cafeteria setting.

Panca Peruvian Rotisserie in Oceanside

Panca Peruvian Rotisserie in Oceanside

Jorgina and I love Peruvian food.  Ever since eating the Lomo Saltado at Mario’s up in LA, it’s been a favorite.  We stumbled upon Panca in Oceanside on our way down from LA over the weekend.

The place was pretty empty when we arrived, but it quickly filled up as the lunch crowd began to trickle in.  Although it looks like you might order from the counter, it’s actually a full service restaurant.

Their prices were reasonable so we decided to add on an appetizer.

Azucar – A Cuban pastry shop in San Diego!

Azucar – A Cuban pastry shop in San Diego!

Happy New Year!  So, I was surfing yelp to find new and interesting places to try, and I stumbled upon Azucar, a Cuban-style patisserie. Since we were going to explore the Sunset Cliffs area, I thought we would make a slight detour before heading to the beach.

And I am so happy to have found you, Azucar! Azucar is like a Porto’s on a small scale with treats that can possibly rival Extraordinary Desserts. And the best part is that it is local – in Ocean Beach on Newport Avenue. Street parking may be a slight challenge and there is a slight San Diego premium added to the prices, but at least you don’t have to deal with the crazy lines and chaos that you often have to encounter when visiting Porto’s.When you step into the little cafe with lime green walls and a modern computerized menu, a glass display case of all their desserts greets you.

Isabel’s Cantina

Isabel’s Cantina

A few weeks back some of my friends and family threw me a surprise birthday party and to my surprise, I had not been to this restaurant before! So we went to Isabel’s Cantina in Pacific Beach. It fuses Asian and Latin flavors and also boasts quite a few vegetarian dishes. On to the food!

First up: Flat Iron Steak With Mojo. The steak was served with portobello mushrooms, cilantro garlic mojo pico, and roasted red and sweet potatoes. The steak itself was a little on the tougher side but that garlic mojo pico sauce made it easier to chew.…
