George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace has been one of my favorite spots to take people from out of town looking to splurge on a nicer meal with a killer view. I’m sad to report it has been quite a while since I last visited. I think my absence coincides with the dismay I felt when I found out they added surcharges for restaurant week items years ago. It was one of the first ones, if not the first one I remember ever doing that. But much like my Wendy’s ban of 10+ years, it was time to let it go.…Read more
So Jorgina and I stumbled onto Tigris Mediterranean Grille the other week after a quick trip to her dentist in Kearny Mesa. It’s just West of the 15 Fwy off of Clairemont Mesa Dr. and Overland Ave. The parking lot in the shopping center was a bit dense, but luckily we found one before the lunch rush.
Inside we were happy to find a quick service Mediterranean grill where you can watch the action of them preparing your food.
At the end of the line, you will find a couple cashiers to take your order and their full menu just overhead.…Read more
These food delivery service companies really have been pulling me on a string lately. Yes I have enough time to shop and cook. But the idea of saving time when I need to, coupled with my curiosity has forced me to try yet another meal kit delivery service. I wrote about Blue Apron back in August and had mixed feelings about it. This time Anh turned me to Freshly since she was about to give it a try herself. Each Blue Apron meal (serving) cost $6.50 (with the discount I found online).…Read more
A few weeks ago we were invited to a blogger dinner at Seasons 52 at the Headquarters in downtown. Ever since we attended a media dinner for the first Seasons 52 in San Diego at UTC, we’ve been paying them visits every once in a while. It’s safe to say we enjoy the food and keep coming back for more! Executive Chef Partner Steve de Barril was on hand once again to talk about the menu and walk us through some of the new things they are preparing.
The downtown location is nice and spacious with an open kitchen to catch some of the action.…Read more
I was quite happy to hear through the wire that two Lemonade locations were opening in San Diego in 2015. I’ve been a big fan of their restaurants for awhile now, but until now I’ve only been able to frequent them during L.A. trips to visit family. The locations recently opened are in Hillcrest and University Towne Center (UTC). Lemonade is a quick service modern marketplace restaurant that brings seasonal California comfort food in a whimsical open-space cafeteria setting.
This location in the UTC mall is located across the food court on the south eastern side near the valet parking & Sport Chalet.…Read more
It has been two long years since we attended a bacon inspired festival. The last time we went to Bacon Fest at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the dessert inspired bacon samples far outweighed the savory ones. In moderation that’s fine, but I’d much rather have it flipped. Michael and I are not huge drinkers which meant we were here for the “bacon” part and not the “barrels.” Beware, lots of pictures in this Bacon and Barrels post.
It took place on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend and turned out to be a wonderful day weatherwise.…Read more
We were invited to Ritual Juicebox in Hillcrest for a tasting when they first offered their plant based food back early in December, but we unfortunately couldn’t make it. They offered to host us at a more convenient time and we recently paid them a visit to see what kind of healthy creations they were cooking up. If you haven’t started on your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier yet, this may be the place to kick start your goal. Lainey Gaura, manager and Executive Chef was there to be our guide as she prepared various food items while we sat down and sampled many of their fresh organic juices they offer.…Read more
Events events events! There are a ton of things going on in San Diego this time of year. We got invited to attend The Wedge in Escondido which focuses on local eats, cheese, beer, and wine. There are going to be 25+ cheese and food vendors and 15+ beer and wine vendors for your eating and drinking pleasure. Since we’ve never been to this one before and don’t get a chance to head up to that area often, we figured this would be a good opportunity!
The street festival is located on Grand Ave.…Read more
