Bacon and Barrels 2015

Bacon and Barrels 2015

IMG_6940

It has been two long years since we attended a bacon inspired festival. The last time we went to Bacon Fest at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the dessert inspired bacon samples far outweighed the savory ones. In moderation that’s fine, but I’d much rather have it flipped. Michael and I are not huge drinkers which meant we were here for the “bacon” part and not the “barrels.” Beware, lots of pictures in this Bacon and Barrels post.DSC_0090

It took place on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend and turned out to be a wonderful day weatherwise.…

Ritual Juicebox (Hillcrest)

Ritual Juicebox (Hillcrest)

Ritual Juicebox Collage 6

We were invited to Ritual Juicebox in Hillcrest for a tasting when they first offered their plant based food back early in December, but we unfortunately couldn’t make it. They offered to host us at a more convenient time and we recently paid them a visit to see what kind of healthy creations they were cooking up. If you haven’t started on your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier yet, this may be the place to kick start your goal. Lainey Gaura, manager and Executive Chef was there to be our guide as she prepared various food items while we sat down and sampled many of their fresh organic juices they offer.…

WedgeLogo-Parmesano-2012-5x5

Events events events! There are a ton of things going on in San Diego this time of year. We got invited to attend The Wedge in Escondido which focuses on local eats, cheese, beer, and wine. There are going to be 25+ cheese and food vendors and 15+ beer and wine vendors for your eating and drinking pleasure. Since we’ve never been to this one before and don’t get a chance to head up to that area often, we figured this would be a good opportunity!

The street festival is located on Grand Ave.…

SNURFACE - WIN_20140104_165115

Romesco is a Mexican-Mediterranean fusion restaurant and tapas bar nestled next to a neighborhood grocery store in Bonita. Romantic couples, old friends, businesspeople and children on their best behavior gather inside this elegant, yet unassuming bistro for one reason, the food. The vast and varying menu of Romesco’s offerings is the genius of Tijuana-born head chef and Hispanic food celebrity Javier Plascencia. Plascencia set out to bring a touch of Baja to cuisine from the Southern European coast. The WHOLE southern coast; Greek, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese dishes are done to perfection with a Mexican twist.…

Hi there folks!  Another day in the paradise we call San Diego!  Noodles & Company recently invited us to try their new seasonal menu which features asparagus.  We had gone before a while back, and while it wasn’t bad it wasn’t very memorable either.  So this was our second attempt to see how their food has changed or evolved with the new items on the menu.  The manager there Jorge set us up with a table and gave us a little history on the restaurant as well as explained what they typically do for a tasting.  …

BO Beau Kitchen + Bar (Ocean Beach)

BO Beau Kitchen + Bar (Ocean Beach)

It was my friends’ birthday, and one of them requested to try something special and different after having been to several birthday dinners with other friends already. I was scratching my head, trying to find a special place that has great food and a great atmosphere for the birthday girl and boy. We were originally planning  to go to the Himalayan, but they weren’t accepting reservations, and could not guarantee us a table. Then I came across BO Beau Kitchen + Bar in OB. I’ve never heard of it before, but it seemed like a nice place, so we decided to give it a try.…

La Gran Terraza (Restaurant Week Preview)

La Gran Terraza (Restaurant Week Preview)

The second Restaurant Week preview! La Gran Terraza is located on the campus of University of San Diego. Who knew this nice venue was right up the hill at USD all this time? It looks like its been open since 2009 so maybe they just like to keep the gem hidden so it doesn’t get overcrowded.

As you can see the Restaurant Week menu online doesn’t list all the dishes available in person. Lucky us!

The restaurant features a wide open space with a cozy amount of room between tables. It felt like a grand ballroom in a fancy hotel, except a little more relaxed and casual since we were on campus after all.…
