Oscar’s Mexican Seafood – Hillcrest

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood – Hillcrest

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood has been on my list forever. I blame TJ Oyster Bar for being too damn good to pull me away for even one visit. One weekend I somehow convinced Anh to come with me and give Oscar’s a shot.

We tried our best to mimic what we normally get at TJ Oyster Bar. I tend to favor the fish ceviche.

One of the many reasons why I love TJ so much is their unabashed approach to what I call “lime drenching.” Yes their ceviche is super sour and I can’t get enough of it.…

El Agave – Old Town Revisit

El Agave – Old Town Revisit

The last time we visited El Agave we were invited to try some of their new vegetarian items. They invited us again to try out a new happy hour menu along with some other additions they added recently.

Light passes through each glass bottle of tequila, illuminating the room with a yellow hue. There is over 2000 bottles of tequila to choose from. Think about that for a second.

I hope the big earthquake doesn’t hit soon. A sea of yellow would flood the streets of Old Town!

This time we got bread along with our tortilla chips.…

Dinner en Green California Avocado Event with Chef Trey Foshee

Dinner en Green California Avocado Event with Chef Trey Foshee

There aren’t many greater pleasures than dining outside when the weather is just right, especially here in San Diego. It was a perfect day and I was excited to see how they would fancify an avocado grove. On this evening we were invited to an avocado inspired event prepared by Chef Trey Foshee of George’s at the Cove and Galaxy Tacos. My companion on this evening was my friend J, who is 99% vegetarian. He occasionally eats chicken the other 1% of the time.

After we checked in there were a couple of bartenders who looked lonely and us being the nice guys we are, joined their conversation.…

Pieology – Southwest Pizzas

Pieology – Southwest Pizzas

We were recently invited to try out Pieology’s new Southwestern pizzas.

Both Darren and I were excited to check out these custom creations as quick service pizzas are still all the rage (Pieology, Project Pie, Blaze, etc.).

When we arrived, we asked to speak with the manager to let him know we were there.  Typically a manager will come over to greet us and walk us through the menu, share any new items, and provide details on any questions we ask, but he was more interested in tending to pies in the oven, rather than us.  …

Harvey’s Lounge Inside the Seven Mile Casino – South Bay

Harvey’s Lounge Inside the Seven Mile Casino – South Bay

P4260014

What the… huh?!  There’s a casino in Chula Vista?

Yes, there is!  The Seven Mile Casino is just south of the 54 freeway and nestled between E & F Streets along Bay Blvd.  While the casino has been in existence for decades and had a long history in the city, this newer property we visited has only been opened for a year.

They specialize in table games such as pai gow, poker, blackjack, and several other table games.

Although tempted to play some games, we were here for the food!

The casino is small relative to a most behemoth casinos you’ll find outside of the city limits or in Las Vegas, but that’s part of it’s charm.  …

Coasterra – Harbor Island, San Diego Bay

Coasterra – Harbor Island, San Diego Bay

IMG_9703

We had a good friend come into town to visit us from the Bay a couple weeks ago.  Since we were over by the airport, we decided to put our name into C-Level which is usually packed on the weekends.  To our surprise we found no wait.

We quickly realized that there was a new restaurant just a couple hundred feet from C-Level that quickly caught our eye.  So, after picking up our friend we decided to give the new place a try.

Coasterra is the newest restaurant to open on Harbor Island and they have been operating for a half year or so.  …

El Agave – Old Town

El Agave – Old Town

If you’ve ever walked around Old Town San Diego before you might have never noticed El Agave. And it’s too bad because they have quite a fun spread above the Old Town Liquor and Deli on the first floor. It is located on the South Eastern end of Old Town, a little bit off the regular path you’ve probably walked many times before. They feature over 2000(!!!) different tequilas for you to try and some fantastic food to go along with it.

One nice thing about dining here is the parking lot shared with the other businesses.…

Ceviche House – North Park

Ceviche House – North Park

Oh ceviche. Have I told you lately, that I love you? Have I told you, there’s no one else, above you? Fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness. Ease my troubles, that’s what you do. Sorry, I sometimes have conversations with my food that lasts well after a meal concludes. Ceviche House opened a location in North Park in December and had previously set up shop at local farmer’s markets throughout San Diego. Unassuming from the outside, it’s what’s inside that counts.

What a bright and welcoming vibe once you step in, kind of like ceviche!…
