Carnitas’ Snack Shack – Del Mar

Carnitas’ Snack Shack – Del Mar

This is later post as it has been a little busy around here lately. Another favorite of ours is Carnitas’ Snack Shack in North Park. It seemed like yesterday when Michael and I used to go to lunch before there was any substantial seating in the back. Now they have a second location in Del Mar, with parking! That is one of the best things I was looking forward to before I drove up to this location.

Anh and I had planned on ordering the standard burger and tacos but specials always tend to ruin my well laid out plans.…

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace – La Jolla

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace – La Jolla

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace has been one of my favorite spots to take people from out of town looking to splurge on a nicer meal with a killer view. I’m sad to report it has been quite a while since I last visited. I think my absence coincides with the dismay I felt when I found out they added surcharges for restaurant week items years ago. It was one of the first ones, if not the first one I remember ever doing that. But much like my Wendy’s ban of 10+ years, it was time to let it go.…

Un Mundo Mexican Grill – La Jolla, UTC

Un Mundo Mexican Grill La Jolla’s newest take on fresh SoCal Mexican cuisine.  They just recently opened their doors a couple months ago in August, but are quickly building traction.

So despite taking 6 years of Spanish throughout Jr. High, High School, and then University, I still couldn’t remember what “Un Mundo” meant.  Pathetic I know!  Luckily Darren knew it meant “One World” and he walked in with his head held high.

Inside the restaurant we were greeted with a pleasant modern setup and blue highlights across the walls.  We met up with Galen (GM) who would be our guide for the evening.  …

Taste of Old Town 2015

Taste of Old Town 2015

I forgot how much fun Old Town can be. It seems like such a touristy place to go, but it was a treat walking around soaking in the sites and sounds. We hadn’t been to a Taste of event in a while so it was nice to put on our loose pants and get out to conquer as many plates as we could. There were a total of 13 participating restaurants with food and beverage(mostly tequila) samples.

It’s not everyday a food blogger can snap pictures while listening to “Oye Como Va” being played live.…

TJ Oyster Bar – Otay Ranch, Chula Vista

TJ Oyster Bar – Otay Ranch, Chula Vista

20141007_122824

This post is LONG overdue.  But, better than never right!?  Luckily I live 10 minutes away from this newest TJ Oyster Bar located in the Otay Ranch community of Chula Vista.  The size of the new restaurant (#3) is perfect combination of the original and the larger sit down restaurant.

Of course they still have a signature bar area where you can sit, but all orders are taken from a counter once you come in.  The kitchen is nice and open where you can watch the action occur (although it’s not as intimate as the original location on Bonita Rd.).…

Del Mar Gourmet Food Truck Festival

Del Mar Gourmet Food Truck Festival

Food Truck Fest

Food truck gatherings are nothing new, but the amount of participating food trucks can make all the difference. The Gourmet Food Truck Festival at the Del Mar Racetrack is one of the larger gatherings we’ve been to. They had close to 40 different food trucks to choose from. This particular event took place last month on a sunny and sizzling San Diego Saturday afternoon. In our eyes, the more the better so we can try as much as we can from food trucks all over Southern California without actually driving to each one.…

D6 Night Market (Mira Mesa)

D6 Night Market (Mira Mesa)

I got a chance to go to the D6 Night Market in Mira Mesa a few weekends ago held at Mira Mesa Community Park. If there is one thing I learned about these events it’s come early if you don’t like to wait in long lines and potentially miss out on some things that may sell out. This particular night market is named after San Diego’s City Council District 6, which includes Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, MCAS Miramar, Mira Mesa, Rancho Peñasquitos-Park Village, and Sorrento Valley.

I went with some friends and we arrived around 4:45 pm.…

Tortas Ahogadas (Chula Vista)

Tortas Ahogadas (Chula Vista)

I was bored one day and caught an old episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern on tv. It happened to be the San Diego episode which I had seen before, but I couldn’t remember all the places he visited. Funny thing is the show contacted us back then asking if we knew of any bizarre food destinations in San Diego. We weren’t of much use to them and couldn’t think of anything truly bizarre that we frequented in SD. One of the places he made his way down to try was Tortas Ahogadas, a food truck located in a Toys R Us parking lot off of the 5 freeway in Chula Vista.…
