The Great Thai BBQ – National City

The Great Thai BBQ – National City

Finally some legit Thai food in the South Bay!  The Great Thai BBQ is National City’s latest Thai restaurant to open.  Ever since moving South to CV, we’ve been craving the great Thai menus we used to be near: Sab-e-lee (Linda Vista), J&T Thai Street Food (near USD), Amarin Thai (Hillcrest), or Taste of Thai (Del Mar).

So, check this out.  A HUGE Thai Iced Tea!  Better yet, it was really good in flavor and the perfect sweetness to half/half ratio.  I’d definitely order again and again.

Wang’s North Park

DSC_0001

Wang’s North Park has been around since 2011 and serves up Asian fusion fare. The only time I sampled their food was during a Taste of North Park event a few years back. That was only one item but on this night we had a wide range of dishes to fill our tummies.Wangs Collage

They offered to host us at a more convenient time and we recently paid them a visit to see what kind of healthy creations they were cooking up. If you haven’t started on your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier yet, this may be the place to kick start your goal. Lainey Gaura, manager and Executive Chef was there to be our guide as she prepared various food items while we sat down and sampled many of their fresh organic juices they offer.…

Happy Friday!! We recently were invited to visit Isabel’s Cantina. It has been four years since our first visit and I’m not quite sure why it has taken so long to visit them again. Last time I was blindfolded and led into the restaurant, only to find a table filled with friends and family there to celebrate my birthday. Surprise! Maybe I compartmentalized that into a whole other part of my brain, away from the “normal” places to go. The outside of the restaurant sticks out like a sore thumb. It sits tucked away from the main stretch of Pacific Beach, sheltered by residential and other businesses. …

Thailand Week (preview night)

Thailand Week (preview night)

TW1

The beginning of next week marks the start of Thailand Week (Sept. 1 to 7, 2014).  Darren and I had the good fortune of covering the preview event a couple weeks ago at the Escondido Center for the Arts.  Since we both love Thai food, we were in for a special treat!  There were over 35+ different restaurants that attended and each had a quality dish to share.

This particular evening was highlighting the “Thai Select” designation as given by the Thailand Ministry of Commerce.  Basically, if you’re given this distinction, your restaurant is “legit” in the eyes of the Thai government.  …
