Bobboi Natural Gelato – La Jolla

Bobboi Natural Gelato – La Jolla

IMG_2337

We had the good fortune of being invited to visit Bobboi Natural Gelato in downtown La Jolla recently.  I’m so glad that we did!

Bobboi has a fun atmosphere inside and the friendly staff greeted us immediately.

You can see they actually carry many different flavors which all must be meticulously maintained at the proper temperature.

Of course, we were curious what “bobboi” meant, and here it is!

They tout absolutely nothing but fresh ingredients and display some of their organic produce here.  When not making gelato, the owners can be found scouring local farmer’s markets looking for fresh new ideas.…

The Milk Bar – North Park

The Milk Bar – North Park

IMG_1811

We got a chance to check out The Milk Bar in North Park back in February and heard some mixed reviews. Most of the not so nice reviews were not because of the quality or the taste, but rather the service. We didn’t have any problems with the service on our visit. In fact, the gentleman manning the register was quite nice. It did just open not long ago so maybe they were working through some things in the beginning. The Milk Bar is owned by Streetcar Merchants of Fried Chicken, Donuts, & Coffee.…

Musical Pairing Pop Up Dinner At Ruth’s Chris

Musical Pairing Pop Up Dinner At Ruth’s Chris

Does food taste better when accompanied by music? Our goal for one evening was to explore our senses a little bit further to see if pairing food with music enhances the overall dining experience. Everyone has listened to music during a meal at one point or another. Have you ever found yourself bouncing to the beat of a song in a restaurant, enjoying every last bite? Fodor’s Guide named them one of the “2015 Top Ten Can’t Miss Pop-Up Restaurants Experiences.” To help guide us through our meal was Barbara Werner, the architect behind Musical Pairing.…

Kung Fu Tea – San Diego (Kearny Mesa)

Kung Fu Tea – San Diego (Kearny Mesa)

IMG_1058

So Darren and I first noticed Kung Fu Tea a couple weeks ago while we were eating dessert at Blush (same shopping center).  It was clearly under construction and didn’t look that far along.  Darren mentioned he’d seen them in Las Vegas before, but didn’t have the opportunity to try them.

Anyhow, I was driving up to LA this past weekend and was headed over to MiTea.  Before I got there, I noticed an open sign and the Kung Fu Tea sign nice and bright.  So, I decided to check it out quickly.…

Blush Desserts (Kearny Mesa)

Blush Desserts (Kearny Mesa)

Ever since I visited Yes! Pingo over a year ago and stumbled upon Blush Desserts next door I wondered how they were doing. That mall is a revolving door of restaurants with a less than friendly parking lot to boot. Now a year later Yes! Pingo isn’t there any longer and I believe Blush Desserts is under new ownership (just kidding, they clarified that it is in fact the same original owners!).

When we first popped in they were just starting up and actually didn’t really have much of anything to offer.…

Ocean Pacific Grille – Downtown San Diego, Gaslamp

Ocean Pacific Grille – Downtown San Diego, Gaslamp

A quick shout out to my neighbors, Russ and Berm, who turned me on to Ocean Pacific Grille right when they opened up 4 months ago.  They’ve been raving about them ever since.  So, I’ve been wanting to try them for some time now, but always had some sort of scheduling conflict.

Luckily for us, Kat from Crave Marketing, invited us to check them out recently.  So of course we jumped at the opportunity when it arrived and said, YES!

Whole Foods Halloween Candy!

Whole Foods Halloween Candy!

Happy Halloween everyone! This post is dedicated to all the people who can’t get enough sweets. Although I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in a while, it is still fun to enjoy the spirit and to people watch. We were given a gift card to explore Whole Foods to try some of their candies. They prohibit the use of artificial colorings, sweeteners and preservatives found in most Halloween candies. So if you are looking for an alternative to the traditional big name brands, here are a few options.

Walking around trying to find the candy I found some fun Halloween cakes and fall whoopie pies.…

iDessert by Jean-Philippe (Little Italy)

iDessert by Jean-Philippe (Little Italy)

We were supposed to visit iDessert a while back but”due to electrical issues,” our original plans got delayed. Thanks to Mary from This Tasty Life via Instagram, we didn’t waste a drive over to find out they were closed for the day. However, we were able to go a few weekends ago on a particularly warm evening. If you have been to Las Vegas you probably recognize the name Jean-Philippe. I’ve stood in front of his chocolate fountain more times than I can count at the Bellagio. And I’ve never seen so much chocolate move around so close to my mouth without any of it going inside.…
