The Location

We were recently invited to dine at Red Card Cafe and it immediately looked familiar when I arrived.  Anyone know what this used to be?

This was the former restaurant, Kitchen 4140, which I used to frequent for a delicious brunch.

The location is nestled in an unsuspecting business park just across from the Costco on Balboa Ave.

Red Card Cafe has taken its place over the past year and doing it’s best to impress with their fun sports themed atmosphere and a fresh menu.

I brought along my good millennial friend, Mr.…

The Westgate Hotel Sunday Brunch Buffet

The Westgate Hotel Sunday Brunch Buffet

Sorry for the delayed posts as of late.  We’re going through a few changes at the moment.  In the meantime, I’m going to try to give you some new content which will be primarily made up of pictures and not too many words… which is probably okay, because I know you’re here to eat with your eyes, right!?  🙂

Anyhow, here’s a long overdue post that’s been in the hopper, but you really need to know about.  It’s probably the best brunch buffet in San Diego I know of!

Vitality Bowls – UTC

Vitality Bowls – UTC

Super foods have been around for a long time, and so has açaí. If you somehow managed to avoid the berry found in Brazil, it is said to have many health benefits. Vitality Bowls is a national chain with locations in seven different states. They specialize in açaí bowls but also serve smoothies, juices, salads, and soups.

We visited the location in the University Town Center area of San Diego.

The inside isn’t very large, but it is bright and clean.

They have specials every month and their Valentine’s special was The Love Bowl.…

Poke Etc. – National City

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you probably aware that poke it all the rage these days in San Diego.

It’s interesting because there was such limited options for poke just a couple years ago, and now there’s probably close to a dozen options now.

One interesting restaurant (and store) that caught our attention was Poke Etc. in National City.

Inside they have a full Hawaiian menu with traditional plate lunches and sides.

They also have a breakfast menu which looks delicious as well.

Just behind the main counter, they have a poke bar which houses a few different ones.  …

Holsem Coffee – North Park

Holsem Coffee – North Park

It’s been almost a month with my new camera and so far I am really digging it. I’m still learning where all the settings are in the various menu’s, but overall, the Olympus OM-D EM-5 MII is very easy to use. The electronic view finder and lcd are awesome to be able to see how the image is going to come out before you shoot. Go technology. On this day Anh and I visited Holsem Coffee which has been on the list for quite some time now. Michael and I tried to go way back when we ate across the street at The Safehouse.…

Harvey’s Lounge Inside the Seven Mile Casino – South Bay

What the… huh?!  There’s a casino in Chula Vista?

Yes, there is!  The Seven Mile Casino is just south of the 54 freeway and nestled between E & F Streets along Bay Blvd.  While the casino has been in existence for decades and had a long history in the city, this newer property we visited has only been opened for a year.

They specialize in table games such as pai gow, poker, blackjack, and several other table games.

Although tempted to play some games, we were here for the food!

The casino is small relative to a most behemoth casinos you’ll find outside of the city limits or in Las Vegas, but that’s part of it’s charm.  …

Freshly

Freshly

These food delivery service companies really have been pulling me on a string lately. Yes I have enough time to shop and cook. But the idea of saving time when I need to, coupled with my curiosity has forced me to try yet another meal kit delivery service. I wrote about Blue Apron back in August and had mixed feelings about it. This time Anh turned me to Freshly since she was about to give it a try herself. Each Blue Apron meal (serving) cost $6.50 (with the discount I found online).…

Emerald Chinese Cuisine – Dim Sum Disaster

IMG_7155c2

Here’s a precursor to my post.  The carts are GONE.  No!!!

IMG_7165

Although San Diego dim sum could never come close to comparing to SGV (San Gabriel Valley) or the Bay (SF or Oakland – Chinatown), I felt my cravings could always be temporarily satisfied at Emerald Chinese Cuisine.  They have been a staple in the Convoy area for decades now and their prices were always decent.  We had our go to dishes that were pretty good here, but the last time we came by (a month ago roughly) we found the doors shut.…
