It’s been almost a month with my new camera and so far I am really digging it. I’m still learning where all the settings are in the various menu’s, but overall, the Olympus OM-D EM-5 MII is very easy to use. The electronic view finder and lcd are awesome to be able to see how the image is going to come out before you shoot. Go technology. On this day Anh and I visited Holsem Coffee which has been on the list for quite some time now. Michael and I tried to go way back when we ate across the street at The Safehouse.…Read more
What the… huh?! There’s a casino in Chula Vista?
Yes, there is! The Seven Mile Casino is just south of the 54 freeway and nestled between E & F Streets along Bay Blvd. While the casino has been in existence for decades and had a long history in the city, this newer property we visited has only been opened for a year.
They specialize in table games such as pai gow, poker, blackjack, and several other table games.
Although tempted to play some games, we were here for the food!
The casino is small relative to a most behemoth casinos you’ll find outside of the city limits or in Las Vegas, but that’s part of it’s charm. …Read more
These food delivery service companies really have been pulling me on a string lately. Yes I have enough time to shop and cook. But the idea of saving time when I need to, coupled with my curiosity has forced me to try yet another meal kit delivery service. I wrote about Blue Apron back in August and had mixed feelings about it. This time Anh turned me to Freshly since she was about to give it a try herself. Each Blue Apron meal (serving) cost $6.50 (with the discount I found online).…Read more
Here’s a precursor to my post. The carts are GONE. No!!!
Although San Diego dim sum could never come close to comparing to SGV (San Gabriel Valley) or the Bay (SF or Oakland – Chinatown), I felt my cravings could always be temporarily satisfied at Emerald Chinese Cuisine. They have been a staple in the Convoy area for decades now and their prices were always decent. We had our go to dishes that were pretty good here, but the last time we came by (a month ago roughly) we found the doors shut.…Read more
We were sent a sample of Nicole’s Naturals Gluten Free Waffle & Pancake Mix a few weeks ago. I just got around to messing around with it last week. Since I don’t own a waffle maker I had to rely on my pancake pouring skills to make for a decent photo. Not only is the mix gluten free, but it is wheat, dairy, and soy free as well. Each serving is 150 calories with only one gram of sugar.
All you need is butter, eggs, and milk or water, and before you know it, you will have your mix ready to go.…Read more
Not only is Azucar great for an impromptu visit for coffee and a pastry, but they also have delicious lunch options like the Cubano sandwich, ground beef filled fried mashed potato balls, and a plethora of sweet treats! You can check out my previous post here, but this review will cover our recent experience placing a special event order for my son’s 1st birthday and baptism celebration.Read more

A year later and I’m still exploring all the little nooks in the South Bay. One place that we’ve gone to a couple times is Family House of Pancakes. It’s a solid, old school, pancake house with no frills. But, their food is served piping hot and delicious!
On our most recent trip with our family, I decided to try their coconut waffle (they have a Belgium option too). It was a decent size and plenty of coconut and powered sugar to satisfy my morning sweet tooth. Like most breakfast places, the waffles and pancakes are served with whipped butter. …Read more
