Avant – Rancho Bernardo

Avant – Rancho Bernardo

One of the best things about being a food blogger is obviously the food, but more than that it’s the unique settings you find yourself in, enjoying said food. It’s the secret bus that takes you to an undisclosed dining location on the beach, or a Comic Con pop up from a chef whose restaurant is near impossible to get in. Or in this case, an intimate kitchen dining experience where Chef de Cuisine Aaron Thomas prepares tastings of the summer menu at Avant in Rancho Bernardo before your very eyes.…

Guiltea Cravings – Clairemont

Guiltea Cravings – Clairemont

It’s been sunny and hot lately and an ice cold dessert sounds like a great idea. Guiltea Cravings opened about four months ago in the same strip mall as Sipz and Di Chan, west of the 805 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. They specialize in macaron’s, tea’s, and snacks.

Up front as you walk in their macaron’s for the day are on full display.

Coco matcha sounded interesting. They mentioned that one of the shells was much softer than the regular macaron shell, and it was. It gave way right as you bit into it and I really enjoyed the flavor of the coconut and hint of matcha.…

Farmer & The Seahorse – Torrey Pines

Farmer & The Seahorse – Torrey Pines

I am way behind in posts so I apologize if some of the next few are kind of older. Life is so inconvenient. This one however, is from a visit only a few weeks ago with some out of town friends. Farmer & The Seahorse had always seemed like a place I would like. From the name, to the setup of the restaurant, it appeared to be my jam. Free parking, albeit a little packed is something that makes an eating experience that much better in my book. I hate driving around like a clueless out of towner trying to find parking.…

Ambrogio 15 – Pacific Beach

Ambrogio 15 – Pacific Beach

This building looked familiar. Ah yes, Michael and I visited a while ago when it was Table 926. I remember really liking the interesting layout of the restaurant. What took its place? Enter Ambrogio 15, a Milano pizzeria brought to you by Andrea, Giacomo, and Luca, all hailing from Milan. You don’t need to talk to them for very long to get a sense of how much pride they bring to their restaurant. From the dough recipes developed in Italy to the imported cold cuts and cheeses, this place screams authentic.…

This is their Katana roll (torched tuna, halibut, krab, avocado, and spicy mayo).  We were excited to learn that they use fresh local fish sourced from Catalina Offshore.…

Jonty Jacobs – La Jolla

Jonty Jacobs – La Jolla

Are you a beef jerky lover? I am. Camran, one of the owners of Jonty Jacobs in La Jolla insists you’ve never had beef jerky like this before. Some things in life you just sort of accept without giving a passing thought. For me, beef jerky is one of those things. Sodium nitrates, sure, why not? Preservatives? Okay! Artificial flavors? Sign me up! But then again, I had no idea there was a tastier, healthier version out there until now. Jonty Jacobs specializes in a popular South African snack called biltong.…
