Bite San Diego Downtown/Little Italy City Tour

Bite San Diego Downtown/Little Italy City Tour

Fun fact: my brother goes on more food tours than we do. He’s turning into quite the food tour expert. If I were to venture a guess, I’d say he’s gone on as many food tours as my oldest brother has gone on cruises. Everyone has their thing, don’t they? He and his girlfriend got us tickets to attend one with them in our very own backyard. Michael and I went on a Bite food tour a few years ago, but that one was in La Jolla. This one covered downtown and Little Italy.…

Bacon and Barrels 2015

Bacon and Barrels 2015

IMG_6940

It has been two long years since we attended a bacon inspired festival. The last time we went to Bacon Fest at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the dessert inspired bacon samples far outweighed the savory ones. In moderation that’s fine, but I’d much rather have it flipped. Michael and I are not huge drinkers which meant we were here for the “bacon” part and not the “barrels.” Beware, lots of pictures in this Bacon and Barrels post.DSC_0090

It took place on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend and turned out to be a wonderful day weatherwise.…

Lou and Mickey’s (Downtown)

We don’t normally get to downtown very often. Lately though, Michael and I have been honing our skills in finding the best parking spots downtown has to offer. On this trip we’d visit and get to know a restaurant we have seen many times, but never dined at before. Partly because it just never occurred to me to try “that” restaurant that sits right across the street from the convention center. Lou and Mickey’s is easy to spot next to the Gaslamp Quarter sign, with its lights shining brightly over 5th ave.…

Table No. 10 (Downtown)

Table No. 10 (Downtown)

In August we visited Table No. 10 and had one of the better meals of 2014. We were excited to meet up with Kirbie and her hubby to see if the magic could be recreated.

Apologies for the lack of light this time around. We ate a lot later than the last meal we had and the sun was nowhere to be found. Michael and I didn’t order this drink duo but we had to get a picture of it. As we are not huge drinkers we let them handle the fancy drink.…

Pizzeria Mozza (Downtown)

Pizzeria Mozza (Downtown)

It has been almost exactly one year since Pizzeria Mozza opened in downtown San Diego. After a short stay, they are closing their doors at the end of the month on November 30th. According to their Facebook page, “the gospel of Mozza pizza did not adequately spread to the people of San Diego.” I wanted to put something up here for people on the fence who have never gone to the restaurant and were thinking of visiting before they closed. I believe a restaurant is only good as the food and service they provide.

Le Parfait Paris – Downtown San Diego

LeParfaitParis-DT1

Our favorite French Patisserie, Le Parfait Paris, has finally unveiled it’s newest storefront in the heart of downtown San Diego.  It’s been a special project in the works for the past year or so, but I assure you the wait has been well worth it.  Darren and I recently went to checkout the new location and definitely were not disappointed.  The new location is stunning.  With clean lines, colorful delights, and tall windows, the space couldn’t be more inviting.  They are also open late on weekends!

We were greeted with some classic delights, as well as some new ones too.  …

Toast Enoteca & Cucina (Downtown)

Toast Enoteca

Chances are you’ve seen or passed by Toast Enoteca & Cucina in downtown San Diego before. It’s right around the corner from Petco Park and across the street from Basic. Have you tried it yet? Fortunately we got to taste what Toast Enoteca & Cucina has to offer, but I can’t help but kick myself for not trying it sooner.

There’s around 400 different wines to sip and indulge on throughout the restaurant. You can load money on wine cards to sample by the ounce, just like Splash and Mosaic in North Park.…
