There are several great San Diego Farmers Markets spread across the county, so when we saw this cool infographic rounding them out, we had to share!

I’ve been frequenting the Otay Ranch Farmers Market at the mall recently on Tuesdays.  We love getting the Pad-see-Ew from the Thai food vendor and lumpia from Gabina’s (5 for $2).

Which Farmer’s Market is your favorite?  Which vendors do you frequent?

Shizuoka Revisit (La Mesa)

Shizuoka Revisit (La Mesa)

We’ve been going to Shizuoka out in La Mesa for quite some time now for its good and cheap Japanese bento box offerings, Oyako Don, and Udon. At the end of 2014 they had an ownership change and the family that owned it decided to retire. Now there seems to be a shift between hot plates to a more sushi centered menu, although they do still serve many of the old items.

Anh was in the mood for noodles so she ordered the Yakisoba combo with California Roll, Gyoza, and a side salad.…

Yes that’s right. Jack in the Box is getting in on the cronut craze. While they are a little behind the trend, we aren’t ones to pass up an opportunity to try these typically tasty treats. A few weeks ago we picked some up. Much like the Vons version, we weren’t expecting much. That’s the best approach going into these. Don’t get your hopes up, and then be pleasantly surprised.  DSC_0004 DSC_0010 And pleasantly surprised we were. The Jack in the Box version of the croissant donuts are miniature and topped with cinnamon and sugar.…

Happy Friday!!! A new taco place opened near my house late last year and we stopped by to find out what’s behind the mustache. As you know there is no shortage of taco stands throughout San Diego. Because of the saturation it can be hard to find one that stands out. We’ve only been once, but our lone visit encourages us to head back and explore the other options on the menu.

I liked how the menu was easy to read with clear categories to choose from. There’s only room for about a dozen people to sit inside, and we were feeling like lazy bums that day, so Anh and I got our order to go.…

San Diego Restaurant Week – Fall 2013

San Diego Restaurant Week – Fall 2013

San Diego Restaurant Week (SDRW) is back!

For those of you not familiar, SDRW is held twice per year and a wonderful tradition that features over 180 restaurants showcasing their culinary arts with a discounted prix fixe menu (ranging from $10-$40).  If you’ve never been, don’t miss out on a great way to sample the best of what San Diego has to offer.  No tickets or passes required!

The hardest part of SDRW is figuring out where to go.  We’ll be posting a preview soon for La Jolla’s newest gem, Amaya La Jolla – highly recommended.…

Ever since Tokyo Lobby in the SGV area has closed there has been a void in my life for a good bento box joint.  Not to kid myself, but even before it closed it was going downhill.  However, it will always be one of my favorite childhood places to celebrate birthdays and other random holidays.  I wouldn’t say Shizuoka out in La Mesa matches Tokyo Lobby for its decor or nostalgia but it is run by some very nice people and they do a great job with keeping the cost down while providing great value.…

Anh and I went to visit one of the only Russian/Ukranian places we’ve been to in San Diego.  The other that has similar food (to us at least) is Pomegranate.  The decor inside is very interesting and there’s a ton of little random nick nacks scattered throughout.  It does sort of feel like a village house even though I by no means am the authority on Kalina village houses.  If anything the different furniture and tables make you feel homey and welcome.
