Island Soul Bistro (Lemon Grove)

IMG_4302 Island Soul Bistro opened up late last year, you know, in 2014. That sounds soooo long ago. It is situated in a dark strip mall in Lemon Grove. Our love of island food brought us here, hoping to uncover a hidden gem. They stood out because of their “unique fusion of Chamorro and Southern cuisine,” according to their website. DSC_0001
If you dine in their sweet tea is on the house. It wasn’t overly sweet, but seemed a little watered down to my taste. Anh thought it was just right. Checkout this smoker!!  We found wonderful smoke rings on most everything we ate – the brisket, ribs, and even the pulled pork.  The smoke ring is nice to look at, but that flavor was to die for…..mmmmmm.…

Korean Fish and Chips?? I’m sold.

Korean Fish and Chips?? I’m sold.

You can immediately tell that Chef John and his wife take pride in their establishment.  There are very courteous and checked with each customer to see if they were okay after receiving their order.  It appears that they are of Korean descent, but their fish and chips took me back to good memories in the U.K!  Crispy, flaky, and full of flavor… mmmmm.  It was definitely worth the trek out to Lemon Grove.

As you can see, the piece of fish spans the entire length of the basket.  The batter was light (though a touch too oily) and the fish moist and delicious.  …
