Darren and I recently joined a San Diego Media dinner hosted by the Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island. The Kona Kai recently completed a $22 million overhaul of the resort and revamped their flagship restaurant, Vessel. Vessel includes a 360-degree bar with sweeping views of San Diego’s beautiful bay front. The interior has been brushed with a vibrant sea foam green against distressed wood throughout. I found the overall ambiance to be upscale, relaxing, and inviting. Vessel is now headed by Executive Chef Roy Hendrickson. As a native Southern Californian who has traveled and lived abroad in Europe, Chef Roy brings years of diverse experience and inspiration to his food and does his best to share that gift with this patrons.…Read more
San Diego Restaurant Week (SDRW) is back!
For those of you not familiar, SDRW is held twice per year and a wonderful tradition that features over 180 restaurants showcasing their culinary arts with a discounted prix fixe menu (ranging from $10-$40). If you’ve never been, don’t miss out on a great way to sample the best of what San Diego has to offer. No tickets or passes required!

When Brian from Sage Communications contacted us asking if we’d like to attend a media tasting at BGR, I was a little hesitant for a couple reasons. There is a ton of competition out there for the “best burger” so what could BGR have to offer that other places do not? I wasn’t sure yet but Anh and I decided to give it a go anyways. It’s located in a small shopping center near Sports Arena Blvd. and has been there since late last year. BGR is a chain from the East coast and they’re trying to expand out here to “steak” claim to the title of “one of the best burgers” according to founder Mark Bucher.…Read more
If someone told me they wanted to go to Jiggle Jiggle for lunch I’d probably ask if the lunch was for free. But alas, an X-rated experience was not meant to be on this day. Jiggle Jiggle is a Korean restaurant and it opened at the beginning of the year. Michael and I are always excited to try a new place, so off we went into the unknown eagerly awaiting our first Jiggle Jiggle taste.
Naturally I gravitated towards the Korean fries when I saw the signs in the front. But the voices in my head told me not to and instead I opted to order the more traditional bulgogi (beef) and bulgogi (chicken) lunch plate. …Read more
Sorry about the recent lapse in updates lately… things have been a bit volatile at work (in a good way tho!).
Anyhow, I’ve been meaning to do a write up on this place for some time, but it’s finally time…
Devine Pastabilities (aka Torpasta), has a unique product offering. Think of a torpedo sandwich roll, toasted inside out, and then stuffed with pasta inside. Sounds a little strange, doesn’t it? I thought so myself the first time I walked in. But, when I walked out, I was sold for good.
My first torpasta was their classic meatball and spaghetti combo (not pictured). …Read more
