Woodranch BBQ & Grill (Mission Valley)

We got invited to the soft opening for the first Woodranch BBQ in San Diego. They have about sixteen locations, mostly in the Los Angeles area. The restaurant is located in Hazard Center in Mission Valley towards the back of the parking lot where Randy Jones All American Sports Grill used to be.

The restaurant itself is very dimly lit with the brightest section being the bar. They have an outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant as well.

Since this was the soft opening all food was complimentary. I remember going to a Woodranch BBQ up in Corona with my family a few years ago.…

Yes that’s right. Jack in the Box is getting in on the cronut craze. While they are a little behind the trend, we aren’t ones to pass up an opportunity to try these typically tasty treats. A few weeks ago we picked some up. Much like the Vons version, we weren’t expecting much. That’s the best approach going into these. Don’t get your hopes up, and then be pleasantly surprised.  DSC_0004 DSC_0010 And pleasantly surprised we were. The Jack in the Box version of the croissant donuts are miniature and topped with cinnamon and sugar.…

Le Parfait Paris (Part Deux) – Chocolate Almond Croisssant!

Le Parfait Paris (Part Deux) – Chocolate Almond Croisssant!

I told you I’d be back soon!  I couldn’t resist picking up another pain au chocolat, so I brought Jorgina and my daughter to try it.  Again, it was consistently delicious, but we also found two new things I had to share with you immediately. Fotor0327180932 Once we arrived, we chatted with Katherine and Guillaume for a few minutes before settling on a a L’Alsacien sandwich, pain au chocolat (not pictured since I talked about it last time), and a pain au chocolat aux amandes (Chocolate Almond Croissant).  To make things even more interesting, they had us take home 3 Chouquettes as well.

Our last review of Smashburger was almost three years ago and in that post I mentioned that it deserved another try maybe three years later.  So here we are, almost three years later visiting Smashburger once again.  Would we notice anything different?

The menu appears to be similar from our last visit.  If you aren’t familiar with Smashburger, they are a nationwide burger chain that pride themselves on quality, never frozen 100% angus beef, artisan buns, a variety of cheeses, and fresh produce.  They want to stand out from all the other fast food chains and deliver on a more specialized product, while not breaking the bank in the process.  …

Rubios (Mission Valley)

Rubios (Mission Valley)

It has been a while since Michael or I had been to Rubios.  I heard they brought back the original fish taco a while ago but never got to try it…until now!  Hopefully most of you have heard of Rubios or seen them in San Diego.  They have about 200 locations and have been serving fish tacos since 1983.

This Mission Valley location is actually quite large and is about as busy as I remember it during the lunch hour.  One difference I noticed is that they really do have an even greater emphasis on seafood than I remember from my past visits.  …
