San Diego Poke Co. – Normal Heights

San Diego Poke Co. – Normal Heights

San Diego Poke Co.

Yes!! San Diego Poke Co. has expanded into a new location located in Normal Heights.

We visited their first Mission Valley location back in July of 2016.  They were one of the first poke places to open up shop in San Diego before it became “all the rage”.

Luckily, we were invited back to try out their latest location.

Their layout is clean, simple, and modern.  To me, this points to the freshness of their fish.

Encontro – North Park, San Diego

Encontro North Park

Encontro in North Park, San Diego, is a fun and inventive food and drink destination.

They just opened up earlier this year (2016), but have already begun to build a nice following.

The name “Encontro” is meant to evoke feelings of discovery or encountering new things.

The restaurant is well laid out with a super friendly staff.  They serve a lot of craft beers and even several specialty sodas for the non-alcoholic drinkers like me.  🙂

You can’t see it in this picture, but there is a nice open window area that you can sit and people watch.…

Beerfish – North Park

Beerfish opened just two months ago in North Park. They specialize in a wide selection of fresh seafood based items with 30 beers and a few wines on tap.

Inside you’ll find a bright, casual and eye catching design with ocean accents throughout. There’s also a small oyster bar where they serve a variety of oysters. During happy hour there’s $1 oysters.

Outside boasts a large patio, perfect for a nice day.

Anh won the chowder decision with the Red Clam Chowder. We didn’t rock paper scissors or anything. How did she win then?…

Holsem Coffee – North Park

Holsem Coffee – North Park

It’s been almost a month with my new camera and so far I am really digging it. I’m still learning where all the settings are in the various menu’s, but overall, the Olympus OM-D EM-5 MII is very easy to use. The electronic view finder and lcd are awesome to be able to see how the image is going to come out before you shoot. Go technology. On this day Anh and I visited Holsem Coffee which has been on the list for quite some time now. Michael and I tried to go way back when we ate across the street at The Safehouse.…

DoorDash

DoorDash

Have you heard of DoorDash before? You might not have as they are relatively new to San Diego. They have an app you can download (you can use a web browser too) which allows you to order food or drinks from the comfort of your home. The restaurant prepares your order, and a delivery person or “dasher” comes to pick it up and deliver it to your house. There is a delivery fee of $3.99 for DoorDash Select restaurants or alternatively it costs $6.99 for other restaurants that are not DoorDash Select.…

The Milk Bar – North Park

The Milk Bar – North Park

IMG_1811

We got a chance to check out The Milk Bar in North Park back in February and heard some mixed reviews. Most of the not so nice reviews were not because of the quality or the taste, but rather the service. We didn’t have any problems with the service on our visit. In fact, the gentleman manning the register was quite nice. It did just open not long ago so maybe they were working through some things in the beginning. The Milk Bar is owned by Streetcar Merchants of Fried Chicken, Donuts, & Coffee.…

The Safehouse (North Park)

The Safehouse (North Park)

A little reminder, we are running a McDonald’s giveaway so don’t forget to enter! Onto our review! Need a dash of nostalgia? The Safehouse just might be that place if you are a video game nerd like me. Located in North Park, their focus is on ramen, local beer, and of course the overall fun atmosphere.

You read that right. NINTENDO 64!

I spy a Nintendo 64 in the corner. Depending on how you look at it, we were or weren’t in luck because the Chargers game was on. Michael was trying to avoid watching/hearing what was going on because he was recording it at home.…

San Diego County Farmers Markets

San Diego County Farmers Markets

There are several great San Diego Farmers Markets spread across the county, so when we saw this cool infographic rounding them out, we had to share!

I’ve been frequenting the Otay Ranch Farmers Market at the mall recently on Tuesdays.  We love getting the Pad-see-Ew from the Thai food vendor and lumpia from Gabina’s (5 for $2).

Which Farmer’s Market is your favorite?  Which vendors do you frequent?
