Cream (Rolando)

Cream (Rolando)

Happy Monday! Just as a reminder, our giveaway for Taste of Hillcrest ends tomorrow so don’t forget to enter for the event taking place on Saturday, April 18th. On to ice cream! Anh has a nose for sweets and her dessert radar is much more powerful than mine, especially when something comes from Northern California to us here in San Diego. We’ve been tracking its opening and heard rumors a new ice cream sandwich place had opened, but it turned out to be wishful thinking at the time.

Alas, a few weeks ago they did open its doors to the public and we got a chance to check them out in person.…

Bruxie (Rolando)

DSC_0075

Happy Belated 4th of July! Hope you all had a nice holiday. Michael and I ventured over to Bruxie near San Diego State University last week. This particular location (first in San Diego) opened last month, and already has gained a lot of steam. They have seven other locations, mostly in the Orange County area. If they can stay consistent with their concept they seem primed and ready to open more. What concept you ask? Waffle sandwiches. Yes they do have other items on the menu like coffee and frozen custard, but the main pull here is the waffle.…

Tokyo Sushi Loha (Rolando)

Tokyo Sushi Loha (Rolando)

IMG_0496

The new Tokyo Sushi location opened in October last year and is only a few blocks down the street from its previous, smaller location off of El Cajon Blvd.

It is definitely much more spacious inside than the last location. It is clean and modernized with a lot of glowing blue colors. Tokyo Sushi Loha is perhaps best known for its loud music at night, permeating each crevice of the restaurant. I noticed there were two separate eating areas. We came for lunch when it was quiet and low key. But I’m guessing one of the wings they keep toned down a bit at night for those that don’t want to experience the club atmosphere.…

Fluffy Duffy’s Snow Cream (Rolando)

Fluffy Duffy’s Snow Cream (Rolando)

IMG_1218  Anh has been eyeing this place for awhile now as we pass by almost weekly to grab our free Friday Ralph’s items. It is located near SDSU, right across the street from Ralph’s in a small shopping mall. They serve snow cream, aka shaved snow, shaved ice, and ice cream. If you don’t know the difference between snow cream and shaved ice, don’t worry,  after all they do all sound the same. The biggest difference is shaved ice is ground up ice flavored with different syrups and other toppings like condensed milk and ice cream.…

Tea Station (Rolando)

Tea Station (Rolando)

Tea Station has arrived in East County!  Many of you may be familiar with Tea Station in Kearny Mesa or Mira Mesa, but they just opened a new location near SDSU off El Cajon Blvd. about a month ago.  Anh and I got a chance to try them out a few weeks ago to see how they compared to their brother and sister.  It is tucked away on the side of the Big 5 off of El Cajon and College.  The restaurant itself is hard to see but they do have a big sign near the intersection that was easy to spot.…

Laylah’s Patties and Jerk (Rolando), San Diego

Jamaican in San Diego! There aren’t many options if you want to get some good Jamaican food her in San Diego so when this restaurant popped up on my radar it was a must see/eat! It’s very vibrant inside as you can see and we were lucky enough to meet little Laylah herself (the owner’s daughter). We felt at home and they made us feel welcome when we perused the menu wondering what we’d get to try.

They had many drinks to choose from so we of course got the ginseng soda, because that makes sense.…
