Sugar Rush San Diego Giveaway!

Sugar Rush San Diego Giveaway!

DSC_0052

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Karen of Sugar Rush San Diego to talk about how her passion for homemade treats has become a growing business and of course, to sample some of her baked goods. We are giving away two dozen of Karen’s cookies to one lucky winner! She started Sugar Rush San Diego about a year ago and has been mostly making cookies; however, she does have other offerings like lemon bars and brownies as well. She learned how to cook and bake from her mother at a young age and one of her main goals is to share what homemade cookies actually taste like.…

Babbo’s Bar & Grille (University Heights)

Babbo’s Bar & Grille (University Heights)

Babbo Grande, originally located in Hillcrest has transformed into Babbo’s Bar and Grille, now located in University Heights. I have never been to Babbo Grande before, and based on the reviews online, it seemed like their signature dish is crepes.

From their menu (apology for the blurred images, you can also see the menu on their website) , you can see that they feature a variety of food: frittata(open faced omelets), sandwiches, crepes and pasta. They also offer a $5.55 special, which is available from Monday to Friday. I was struggling between the special and the breakfast plates.

Loving Hut – Cocoa Tofu

Loving Hut – Cocoa Tofu

I’m checking out Loving Hut for lunch and more importantly trying out my new smartphone (which I’m blogging from now.)  So far the interface seems simple enough. Here is the cocoa tofu which wasn’t too bad.  The contrast of the cocoa with the coconut provided a nice balance, while the peanuts gave some added texture.  I’m not one to usually suggest a vegan lunch, but it was a nice change of pace.

Anyhow, Loving Hut is just off El Cajon Blvd… about a mile west of Texas St.  (Central SD).

Cafe 21 Re-visit (University Heights)

Cafe 21 Re-visit (University Heights)

I believe I mentioned this before, but I love Cafe 21. It is in my top top lists of breakfast lunch places to go in San Diego. I love everything about this place. I love the staff, the owner, the vibe, the decor, the furniture, the drinks and of course the food. They make you feel comfortable there and care about your experience. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

This time I stopped by for a quick bite and i tried the curry crab cakes. I never had these before and the waiter recommended it so who am I to deny him the satisfaction.…

Cafe 21

Cafe 21 is one of those San Diego eateries I love to go to. Never to turn down a good a mom and pop shop, this place has it all for breakfast. We got three different dishes and heeerrre theeey arreee.

Sausage omelet. Simple, good, yummy. It had italian sausage, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. All the omelet’s come out on a cast iron griddle and they come with toast and a side. You can choose from salad, prosciutto, potato pancake, and fruit. I’ve had all of the omelet’s on the menu at one time or another and they’re all great.…

El Zarape – San Diego Mexican Seafood & Tacos

El Zarape – San Diego Mexican Seafood & Tacos

We discovered El Zarape a couple years ago and since then it’s become a local favorite.  Located right in the heart of Universtity Heights, this simple setup yields lines of loyal customers.  Their prices are super reasonable!  You can get a Lobster or Scallop burrito for $7… amazing.  But, let’s talk about the quality of their food.

The fish tacos at 99 cents is a steal!  Like any good fish taco, you’d be wise to eat it on site so you can experience the full crunch of the recently fried batter. …
