Woodranch BBQ & Grill (Mission Valley)

We got invited to the soft opening for the first Woodranch BBQ in San Diego. They have about sixteen locations, mostly in the Los Angeles area. The restaurant is located in Hazard Center in Mission Valley towards the back of the parking lot where Randy Jones All American Sports Grill used to be.

The restaurant itself is very dimly lit with the brightest section being the bar. They have an outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant as well.

Since this was the soft opening all food was complimentary. I remember going to a Woodranch BBQ up in Corona with my family a few years ago.…

The Whole Hog (San Diego)

DSC_0336

The Whole Hog opened a few months ago and we got a chance to stop by to see what they are cooking. It is on Park Blvd., south of Big Front Door and Cafe on Park. I’m not much of a sandwich person, but recently Supernatural Sandwiches and Big Front Door have brought me new found joy for the art of the sandwich.

Starkeys BBQ is located right in the heart of Pacific Beach (across from Belmont Park).  Thanks to Ryan and Becca for inviting us out to try what they had to offer.

While we came out for lunch this day, we found out that Starkeys is well known for their breakfast items too.  Above is a sampling of their breakfast menu which we’d like to try one day as well.

Inside Starkeys is nice and relaxed.  It matches the laid back Pacific Beach feel.  They had a nice salt water tank with a clown fish (Nemo!) that my daughter enjoyed, as well as colorful paintings of sea life that covered the walls.…

The Soul Food Festival

The Soul Food Festival

When I think of the food in the South, particularly food I had in “Bama”, all I would think about are mashed potatoes, sweet corn, mac & cheese, beans, corn bread, slow cooked meat and my favorite–sweet tea. My host mom used to cook me home style southern food all the time. At that time I was still in high school, so I didn’t have much of a chance to eat out. Occasionally, we would have barbecue too.

Therefore, I was delighted to be invited to the 2nd Annual San Diego Soul Food Festival 2012 to have some barbecue among other things.…

Jiggle Jiggle (Midway)

Jiggle Jiggle (Midway)

If someone told me they wanted to go to Jiggle Jiggle for lunch I’d probably ask if the lunch was for free.  But alas, an X-rated experience was not meant to be on this day.  Jiggle Jiggle is a Korean restaurant and it opened at the beginning of the year.  Michael and I are always excited to try a new place, so off we went into the unknown eagerly awaiting our first Jiggle Jiggle taste.

Naturally I gravitated towards the Korean fries when I saw the signs in the front.  But the voices in my head told me not to and instead I opted to order the more traditional bulgogi (beef) and bulgogi (chicken) lunch plate.  …
