The first two are in Arcadia while the newest location here opened in Glendale late last year at the Americana shopping center. If you are not familiar with Din Tai Fung, they serve different varieties of dumplings including soup dumplings and pan fried dumplings. Chin’s is a Chinese restaurant in San Diego you may have heard of. Compared to other Chinese restaurants, it is quite “fancy” in decoration and pricing. I heard that the Chin’s restaurants are owned by one family, and throughout the years they have separated into two ownerships. You may have noticed the Chin’s on Convoy became “Chef Chin”.

For those of you who haven’t tried Dumpling Inn in San Diego, you’re in for a real treat! My office used to be a few minutes away from this quaint hidden gem and we would frequent here for lunch on a weekly basis. It’s been nearly 8 years since first coming here and there doesn’t seem to be any new competition in sight (in San Diego that is).

Yes, this place is called Mr. Dumpling. It’s a little hidden but worth a visit here and there. I’d say Dumpling Inn is much better if you don’t’ mind the wait. But nevertheless, they got two dishes out of three down. It’s just that the third dish was what I was looking forward to most (steamed pork dumplings or xiao long bao).
The first dish was a beef and leek pancake. This was executed quite nicely. It had the perfect amount of crunch and good beef to leek ratio. The only thing was that it was a little salty.…Read more
