Herb & Wood – Little Italy, San Diego

Herb & Wood – Little Italy, San Diego

Herb & Wood

Jorgina and I recently celebrated our 11th Wedding Anniversary with a fun staycation in San Diego.  On our second evening, I made reservations at Brian Malarkey’s newest restaurant, Herb & Wood.

Nestled in San Diego’s Little Italy, Herb & Wood is the perfect new addition to an already vibrant resurgence of hip and cool flavors.

Just a few doors down from Juniper & Ivy, Herb & Wood set up shop in a cool industrial building which was formerly a furniture store.

Cucina Urbana – Banker’s Hill

This is one of those posts that I have sat on for a while, not sure if I wanted to write. But here I am, six months later with the memory of this meal still clear as day. Execute easy decision making process, code name Cucina Urbana. Everyone needs go-to restaurants so as to not feel the constant pressure of finding new gems all the time.…

Cafasso Meatball Company – San Diego

Whhhhhheeeeeewwwwww! That is the sound of me dusting off this many month old post. It has been sitting in drafts for far too long. I don’t recall why we were up in the area because I rarely venture outside my zone, but Michael and I made it out to Cafasso Meatball Company many moons ago. It doesn’t normally look like that…I think. By now the construction should be done.

We opted for a family meal that came with a salad, garlic bread, meatballs, and ravioli. The salad was your standard green salad.…

Acqua Al 2 – Downtown San Diego, Gaslamp

I was 27 the first time I had the privilege of visiting Florence, Italy.  What a wonder place full of rich Renaissance history, beautiful works of art, and a love for life!  It’s no wonder that restaurateur, Martin Gonzales, fell in love with Florence.  In fact, he took the additional step to move there and immerse himself in their culture.  After successfully completing culinary school there and working under Master Chef Innocenti, he took the initiative to bring Acqua Al 2’s first sister restaurant stateside. Luckily for us, he decided to land in San Diego first!…

Cookbook Tavola Calda (Little Italy)

DSC_0014

There’s a lot of activity in Little Italy with seemingly new restaurants popping up all over. Cookbook Tavola Calda in Little Italy has been open since May, and Chef Gregorio Sarafini Pozzi along with his business partner, Filippo Macchiarelli could be filling a niche with staying power. As Chef Gregorio explained to us, the tavola calda in Italy is a gathering place or hang out where people can relax and share food and drink. It can be fast and casual, but also features house made food that you might find at a sit down restaurant.…

Anh and I happened to be in Encinitas a while back and stumbled upon Rosanna’s Fresh Pasta and Pizza. When you’re in areas you don’t normally frequent  sometimes you can find some really good stuff!

It may be hard to read but besides fresh pasta and pizza they also serve paninis and sandwiches.

We noticed a lot of people coming in and out, mostly ordering to go. The place is in the corner of a strip mall and is very unassuming. When you step inside there’s a bunch of wine and other random Italian food products you can purchase.…

Duck Dive (Pacific Beach)

Duck Dive (Pacific Beach)

Shortly after Darren and Michael took in all Pacific Beach Fish Shop has to offer, Jenna and I made our way a little deeper into PB. Along the beachfront are a ton of bars and restaurants worthy of some special attention. Everything from the dirtiest dive to the most elegant cuisine is right here along Mission Blvd. Duck Dive, an open air bar and grill is smack in the middle of both the street and the budget.
