I was 27 the first time I had the privilege of visiting Florence, Italy. What a wonder place full of rich Renaissance history, beautiful works of art, and a love for life! It’s no wonder that restaurateur, Martin Gonzales, fell in love with Florence. In fact, he took the additional step to move there and immerse himself in their culture. After successfully completing culinary school there and working under Master Chef Innocenti, he took the initiative to bring Acqua Al 2’s first sister restaurant stateside. Luckily for us, he decided to land in San Diego first!…Read more
There’s a lot of activity in Little Italy with seemingly new restaurants popping up all over. Cookbook Tavola Calda in Little Italy has been open since May, and Chef Gregorio Sarafini Pozzi along with his business partner, Filippo Macchiarelli could be filling a niche with staying power. As Chef Gregorio explained to us, the tavola calda in Italy is a gathering place or hang out where people can relax and share food and drink. It can be fast and casual, but also features house made food that you might find at a sit down restaurant.…Read more

Everything from the dirtiest dive to the most elegant cuisine is right here along Mission Blvd. Duck Dive, an open air bar and grill is smack in the middle of both the street and the budget.
A true to form gastropub, they focus equally on the food and libations. The creations from both the chefs and the bartenders are equally impressive.…Read more

Sorry about the recent lapse in updates lately… things have been a bit volatile at work (in a good way tho!).
Anyhow, I’ve been meaning to do a write up on this place for some time, but it’s finally time…
Devine Pastabilities (aka Torpasta), has a unique product offering. Think of a torpedo sandwich roll, toasted inside out, and then stuffed with pasta inside. Sounds a little strange, doesn’t it? I thought so myself the first time I walked in. But, when I walked out, I was sold for good.
My first torpasta was their classic meatball and spaghetti combo (not pictured). …Read more
