Have you been to Restaurant Week yet? There are many restaurants vying for your business and you can check out the list here. Not everyone is participating in week 2 so pay special attention to that before you get too excited. The cost got raised by $5 but many of the pre fixe menus can be a good deal if you do a little research ahead of time. Seasons 52 is one of those that we felt gave great value for the amount you pay ($35 for dinner). And if you hurry up you may catch them before Restaurant Week ends tomorrow!…Read more
Finally we made it to another Malarkey restaurant! So far Anh and I have been to Searsucker, Gingham, and now Gabardine crossed off the list. I used to go to Oceanaire when Chef Brian grazed the kitchen before his Top Chef days and have been a fan of his ever since. The food industry is a funny thing now with celebrity chefs or tv chefs becoming more celebrity than chef. Could his vision be executed without him in the kitchen?
Believe it or not, this was the Clam Chowder. There was bacon, corn, potatoes, and a few clams with shells in there. …Read more
I’m going to be honest, when I want noodles I go to Convoy, but after seeing Gaijin’s extensive tasting menu I took a leap. Nestled in the Gaslamp Quarter, it seems rather unassuming, but inside the doors is a modern, minimalist, good-time restaurant.
First up for my starter was the Pork Carnitas Bao with red rock sugar. Delicious. The red rock sugar added an extra textural element, some crunch if you will. I love bao buns, so the soft bun, spicy sauce and crunchy pickles did not disappoint.
Second course was Yakitori, little skewers of tastiness.…Read more
Hello Restaurant Weekers! Can’t believe San Diego Restaurant Week came and went so fast this year. Luckily I was able to catch a few dinners before it ended. Old Venice kind of happened by chance. Anh and I actually were going to give Bo Beau a try but their hour+ wait wasn’t very appetizing to us hungry folk so we did some searching for participating restaurants in the near vicinity and Old Venice fit the script. We called and put our name down and were seated right away in the patio. …Read more
So it’s RESTAURANT WEEK! That special time of the year where you get to feel extra fancy when you go out because you have “courses.” I like to use restaurant week like most people, to try places I wouldn’t usually go to and also to go to some of the beloved places for an extra luxe feel.
New restaurant #1 was Kitchen 1540. Located on the beautiful shores of Del Mar in the L’Auberge hotel (yes, it is as fancy as the name suggests). Scenery and swankiness aside, the number one reason I chose this place was because they offered my one of my favorites on their lunch menu, tomato soup with a grilled brie cheese sandwich.…Read more

Anh and I previewed Del Mar Rendezvous last night and wanted to give you an idea of what to expect for the Restaurant Week menu. Can you believe it’s already Restaurant Week again!? It seems to creep up on you each time. You won’t see me complaining though…
We arrived and right away noticed the modern twist to this Chinese establishment. …Read more
