I was quite happy to hear through the wire that two Lemonade locations were opening in San Diego in 2015.  I’ve been a big fan of their restaurants for awhile now, but until now I’ve only been able to frequent them during L.A. trips to visit family.  The locations recently opened are in Hillcrest and University Towne Center (UTC).  Lemonade is a quick service modern marketplace restaurant that brings seasonal California comfort food in a whimsical open-space cafeteria setting.

During a recent stay-cation in North County, we were lucky enough to stumble upon a great little spot called Yoshino’s Japanese Deli.

I guess you could say they are the epitome of a great “hole in the wall”.

Their tiny space is simple and to the point, but their production of flavors are huge!

They specialize in Poke Bowls, or simply put, “Sushi Rice Bowls”.  They have several types of poke bowls to choose from which are built around of tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, spicy crab, masago, avocado, and seaweed salad.  …

Kona Kai – VESSEL Restaurant, San Diego

Fotor010200296Darren and I recently joined a San Diego Media dinner hosted by the Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island.  The Kona Kai recently completed a $22 million overhaul of the resort and revamped their flagship restaurant, Vessel.  Vessel includes a 360-degree bar with sweeping views of San Diego’s beautiful bay front.  The interior has been brushed with a vibrant sea foam green against distressed wood throughout.  I found the overall ambiance to be upscale, relaxing, and inviting.  Vessel is now headed by Executive Chef Roy Hendrickson.  As a native Southern Californian who has traveled and lived abroad in Europe, Chef Roy brings years of diverse experience and inspiration to his food and does his best to share that gift with this patrons.…

The Cottage

I had never heard of this place until my gf told me about it and suggested we go. To both of our delights it was good! She got the stuffed French toast with strawberries (inside) and bananas (on top) and I got the shrimp and crab salad. The French toast was pretty good. The fruit added a nice flavor to the French toast and it didn’t seem too overboard. There were some orange bits in there that may have been zest, and that probably didn’t have to be in there. I’d say this was an above average French toast because it came with two fruits and there wasn’t anything bad about it.…
