Carnitas’ Snack Shack – Del Mar

Carnitas’ Snack Shack – Del Mar

This is later post as it has been a little busy around here lately. Another favorite of ours is Carnitas’ Snack Shack in North Park. It seemed like yesterday when Michael and I used to go to lunch before there was any substantial seating in the back. Now they have a second location in Del Mar, with parking! That is one of the best things I was looking forward to before I drove up to this location.

Anh and I had planned on ordering the standard burger and tacos but specials always tend to ruin my well laid out plans.…

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace – La Jolla

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace – La Jolla

George’s at the Cove: Ocean Terrace has been one of my favorite spots to take people from out of town looking to splurge on a nicer meal with a killer view. I’m sad to report it has been quite a while since I last visited. I think my absence coincides with the dismay I felt when I found out they added surcharges for restaurant week items years ago. It was one of the first ones, if not the first one I remember ever doing that. But much like my Wendy’s ban of 10+ years, it was time to let it go.…

Rubios New Tropical Shrimp Burrito and Tacos (Santee)

IMG_3558

Rubios currently has a couple new menu items at all their locations and we were invited to try them out.

IMG_3552

Right now they are offering a Tropical Shrimp Burrito and Tropical Shrimp Tacos for a limited time. How can you not dig their tagline, “hot, yet tropicool.” Ahhh yeah.

A Rubios visit wouldn’t be complete with a salsa lineup for our tasting pleasure. IMG_3553

At first glance the burrito and tacos looked like they had the same ingredients. But the few differences made each taste noticeably different. Both have pan seared ancho shrimp with tropical salsa made with mango, pineapple, and chiles, pickled red onions, and a creamy chipotle sauce.…

Tacos Revolucion – San Diego, San Ysidro

Eating authentic street tacos definitely brings back some memories.  Back in college, we would cross the border into TJ on a late Thursday night, or venture our way down to Rosarito Beach for a Spring Break weekend.  While some of my friends will probably remember the hard hitting beats at the clubs, I simply remember searching out the best and most authentic foods I could find… mostly on the street.  Adobada tacos quickly became a favorite for Jorgina and me.  If you’ve never had them, it’s a must try!   (Think marinated pork meat on a roasting spit.…

Happy Friday!!! A new taco place opened near my house late last year and we stopped by to find out what’s behind the mustache. As you know there is no shortage of taco stands throughout San Diego. Because of the saturation it can be hard to find one that stands out. We’ve only been once, but our lone visit encourages us to head back and explore the other options on the menu.

I liked how the menu was easy to read with clear categories to choose from. There’s only room for about a dozen people to sit inside, and we were feeling like lazy bums that day, so Anh and I got our order to go.…
