Although Pho has never been one of my favorites, I was eagerly awaiting to try Pho Fusion and score on $1 boba tea. Apparently they are still celebrating their grand opening and $1 boba tea and $1.50 snow bubbles are limited time specials.
When we first sat down, things looked promising. They had a simple menu, but comprehensive enough to cover the majority of items you’d expect at a Pho restaurant. My wife ordered a bowl of Pho and a boba tea. I ordered the Vietnamese stew over vermicelli noodles and a mint chocolate snow.
“Sorry, we don’t have anymore boba, ” our waitress exclaimed, “But, we do have jelly.”
Okay, jelly instead of boba. We’ll give that a try.
“Sorry, we don’t have anymore stew. Do you want something else?” “Give me a minute then to reconsider please,” I replied.
A couple more minutes pass and I ask for the chicken and egg roll with vermicelli noodles. Guess what?
“Sorry, we don’t have anymore vermicelli noodles. You want something else?”
Wow. What next? “Oh yeah, we also don’t have any chocolate for your Mint chocolate snow bubble. Is mocha ok?” “Sure, whatever you have I guess.”
As you might imagine, I was getting a little frustrated at this point. But, I was finally able to order a chicken curry dish over pho noodles.
The pho was decent here… a little salty according to the wife though. My chicken curry was tasty as well, but there was a layer of oil that sat on the top that I wish I could have sifted off somehow.
The boba tea with jelly just didn’t taste right. We took a couple sips and ended up sharing my mint mocha which was much better. The blend of the mint mocha was very even and I’d have to say was the highlight of the evening.
But, the good thing is that the owner came by and gave us a our drinks for free. He realized that we weren’t able to order everything we wanted and for that I am willing to give Pho Fusion another try.
