Hat’s off to The Hat

I first encountered The Hat 15 years ago.  My Dad wanted to grab a quick bite, and said he knew of a little sandwich shop that had the best pastrami.  Sure, why not?  I was expecting a basic pastrami that was dry, salted, and coupled with some rye bread.  Boy, was I wrong!  Wrapped carefully in yellow paper was a pastrami sandwich from Heaven.  Nestled in a fresh roll were mounds of thinly sliced pastrami drenched in au jus.  It was perfectly salted and super moist!  Simple, savory, and delicious… mmmm.

My most recent trip came a few weeks ago when I had some relatives visiting us from the U.K.  We were excited to take them all around to our favorite foodie spots and The Hat was one of our very first stops.  Here is the pastrami dip, just as I remembered it…

Being that I haven’t veered from the pastrami dip since I first tried it, I really can’t attest to their other sandwiches.  I believe the only other sandwich I’ve seen ordered was a Pastrami Burger which also looked divine!  But, enjoy with caution folks.  A couple of these sandwiches might just land you in your cardiologist’s office.

Having said that, the next artery clogging goodness comes in the form of chili cheese fries.  As you can see here, the chili is plentiful, but the cheese needed a little coaxing to fully melt into what I’d consider a gooey goodness.  Unfortunately that didn’t happen today.

Anyhow, as you can see I’m a bit partial to The Hat.  But, my sister and my cousin will swear by Tops.  What do you think?  Try both and let us know what you think!
