Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe (Liberty Station)

Although Michael and Darren frequent the Liberty Station shopping area near Point Loma, I have never been.  This was my first time was to Con Pane and it was a perfect sunny San Diego day to go out for lunch.

When we arrived, there was a small line of people waiting to get their lunch.

I studied every item on the menu closely, and I decided on the Roasted Turkey Sandwich. Oh, but wait, it’s not just deciding which sandwich you want. It’s also choosing what kind of bread you would like for your sandwich to be made of. They have a wide choices of breads freshly baked every day, and some of their breads only come out once a week.

It’s not easy to make bread, especially delicious bread. My family had a bread making machine at home, and we used to make bread sometimes. I remember it being a lot of work and taking a long time for the final product. So, I’m quite impressed and appreciate the many different kinds of bread they have.

The line moved fast, and I quickly chose the Artisan Multi-grain bread.

Other than breads, they have pastries as well. Also freshly made, cinnamon rolls, scones, and cookies. Cool.

Breads. Breads. Breads.

Some of the breads they make daily are: Rosemary Olive Oil, French banguette, Ciabatta, and Sour dough.

I really like the clean, classy design and decoration of the place. It’s an ideal place for chilling out, and lay back to have a cup of coffee and a nicely made sandwich.

As we were waiting for our orders, I saw people coming in to pick up breads and pastries.

The size of the sandwich is pretty decent, not too big, not too small. There were roasted turkey, lettuce and I almost thought it was sun-dried tomatoes, but they actually roasted the tomatoes, nice. I liked my sandwich, great balance between meat and veggies. Healthy!

The star was absolutely the bread. Can you see the grains? Yeah, every bite of the bread was filled with grains. The bread crust was crispy, and the texture of the bread was so soft, and full of flavors. I can probably enjoy the bread alone without the turkey and lettuce, and can still be satisfied.

No wonder people would come down here just to get some fresh rustic bread. I am thinking of coming back to get some bread too. Although we didn’t make great bread with the machine when I was little, I now have a place to go to so I don’t need to!

About Jady

Yes, I love to eat. Enjoying food is a blessed experience; it brings people together, and helps create many beautiful memories (and even bad ones). Born and raised in Hong Kong, under the East meets West culture, a picky taste bud is in the blood. I have only been in San Diego for 3 years, and honestly there’s still a lot that I haven’t explored and tried. I hope to gain the most out of it before I leave the country by being a part of SDF.
