D-Bar (Hillcrest)

So, I have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Okay, I have a large sweet tooth (and the fillings to prove it). So when I was perusing the Restaurant Week Menus one item stood out to me, the “Cake and Shake” at D-Bar. Yes, it is quite simply and slice of cake and a shake.

I made a trip to Hillcrest specifically to try this combination and I am SO glad I did. D-Bar is a modern looking place that focuses on high-end desserts, similar to Extraordinary Desserts, but less gold foil.  Now if you have ever watched any of the FoodTV “challenges” (i.e. sugar sculptors, Cat in the Hat themed cakes, ect.) you probably know Keegan Gerhard or at least would recognize him, like I did. Well, he runs the place so you get that FoodTV star vibe with the flat-screen TVs on a constant FoodTV loop (you know what I’m talking about).

Regardless of your feelings about FoodTV, the Cake and Shake is something to try (with someone else because it is SO decadent). Chocolate cake with Madagascar Vanilla Buttercream. The cake-perfectly moist. The frosting- great balance of dark chocolate without the excess of sugar taste so you can have more than two bites. The shake- chocolate (I got it malted) another great balance of quality dark chocolate and sugar restraint.

I will go back to D-Bar just to eat this. I can’t speak to any of their other food, but if you’ve been feel free to leave some advice in the comments for that ever closer day when I will be returning.
