When I was invited to be part of the Dos Equis’ Bazaar Noir, my mind was ready for a crazy new experience. After it was over, not only my mind but my whole body was overwhelmed with the music, the smells, tastes, color and fun. Everything was planned to put you out of your comfort zone from beginning to end.
When we got there at 7:30pm, we were given a little card that we carried during the whole night. Every time we experienced something, a corner of your card was punched. When you finish all four corners, they would give you a pass to a private room.
The first challenge was eating duck tongue. For those who don’t know, I’m a cook, love to try new things and I eat basically anything. But I have to confess my problem with textures: mussels, mushrooms, oysters, it takes some time for me to get used to it and actually enjoy it. So yea, I had a hard time trying the tongue lettuce wrap for the first time. But it was so delicious and full of spices that after the first I had the second, and the third. I totally loved it.
For the second challenge, touching a python, a lizard or an alligator. Never thought I would have the guts to do it but the curiosity to know what they had in the private room gave me a little push. So, I chose the snake, so smooth and soft that didn’t even seem real.
The third challenge was trying a roll with kangaroo meat inside. One more thing to know about me: I try really hard to eat spicy food but my body just can’t handle it. I heard people saying that the kangaroo was a killer, really spicy. But I wanted my punch, so decided to take a little bite. I did feel a little bit of hotness on my tongue, but totally bearable. Then I took a bigger bite. Bad idea. My whole mouth was on fire, I was burning, sweating and I couldn’t breathe. The worst part is that with spicy food you want to keep eating. No, I didn’t. I decided to go outside instead, and catch some fresh air.
Coming back, I had my last challenge: cricket tacos. Everybody told me it was delicious and the guy next to me was eating and really enjoying it. So I ate it. So good!!! Crispy, flavored, delicious. I even had another one. The bed of green underneath was guacamole.
Four hours and four challenges later, I finally had my card full. Got a spot on the private room line and waited. But…guess what? By the time that we finally got there, the party was over and there was no time left for us. (Everybody goes: No!!!!! and I go: Yes. ) But to feel better, I interviewed the security guard so he could kill my curiosity. It was a private dance show with no pictures allowed. Well, it is what it is. I was too excited enjoying the party, getting on the really big lines for the challenges and trying the amazing beer cocktails that I lost track of time.
The drinks menu was yummy. Unfortunately, it was too dark and my picture was not acceptable, but here is what they had:
DOS ARITA (4.5% ABV): Dos Equis lager with 1800 Tequila, sour mix, and triple sec.
MICHELADA (3.8% ABV): Dos Equis ambar with tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, hot sauce, chilli powder, and lime. – MY FAVORITES!
DOS SIDRA (5.6% ABV): Dos Equis lager or ambar with Strongbow, and Chambord.
During the party, they also gave us really interesting lollipops (to say the least).
Summing up, I loved it and now I can tell everybody that I’m a fearless foodie.
Thanks for the invite David and Dos Equis!
