Anh and I happened to be in Encinitas a while back and stumbled upon Rosanna’s Fresh Pasta and Pizza. When you’re in areas you don’t normally frequent sometimes you can find some really good stuff!
It may be hard to read but besides fresh pasta and pizza they also serve paninis and sandwiches.
We noticed a lot of people coming in and out, mostly ordering to go. The place is in the corner of a strip mall and is very unassuming. When you step inside there’s a bunch of wine and other random Italian food products you can purchase. It reminded me of Mona Lisa in Little Italy, except on a much smaller scale. We arrived about 30 minutes before they were set to close but they didn’t allow us to dine in, so we dined in our car!
Oh look, a Caprese Panini was on the menu. We got the one with artichoke and basil covering the outside of the bread. There were two main reasons we decided to dine in our car. The first was we didn’t want to let the food sit and get cold while we drove home. The other reason which motivates us to bend over backwards at times: hunger! The Caprese Panini with Artichoke had a good balance of mozarella, tomato, artichoke and bread. They pressed the sandwich nicely and there was a distinct crunch on the outside while being warm, moist, and juicy on the inside. The basil was subtle but noticeable.
One of my favorite comfort foods is Spaghetti and Meatballs. We had an uninspired version previously at Buona Forcetta(off day?) so we were prepared for anything. My childhood memories came back in a flash. The meatballs were moist, dense, not too salty, but packed a meaningful meat punch. Alongside the delightful marinara sauce, I was breathing in the moment in our car. Honestly it doesn’t matter where you eat if the food is good. But if the food is bad, boy are you going to rip a place apart for being dirty or having bad service. Luckily on this day, I was allowed to overlook my dirty car that needed a good wash. Too bad Rosanna’s is not closer to where we live. It would easily make the list when in the mood for a no nonsense tin of old spaghetti and meatballs.

Interesting you say that about Buona Forchetta. My husband and I went there & we wanted to love it, but the food was bland. We thought maybe an off day too because I’ve heard such great things. And I love the way the outdoor seating looks at night – and it’s by my fav bar, Hamilton’s. It was very “meh”. This place sounds very tasty. I will pass this info along to my friends up in that area, and I will have to check it out as well! Thanks!
Isn’t that the worse thing ever? Coming into a hyped place only to be disappointed. We always want to give places a second chance but we just haven’t willed ourselves to go back yet. Maybe one day! I read some other reviews about poor service at Rosanna’s but we didn’t have any problems with the person that helped us.
