Sushi Co. in right in the heart of Hillcrest. They are aiming to be a fresh and quick sushi option for the area.
Inside is modern and quaint.
There are a few tables to sit at.
They have a nice assortment of bottled drinks upfront by the cashier.
Their menu is simple, fresh, and to the point. Darren and I decided to share a couple different things so we could sample a few different things.
This is their Katana roll (torched tuna, halibut, krab, avocado, and spicy mayo). We were excited to learn that they use fresh local fish sourced from Catalina Offshore.
The sashimi was fresh. We got salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. Plating could have been a bit more appealing as the fish just looks like it’s haphazardly laid on the plate.
We also opt’d to try one of their sushi burritos since these are all the rage currently.
The ingredients were definitely nice and fresh, but I felt it was missing something… like a sauce or something to spruce it up a bit.
Finally, we tried a sushi bowl which included tuna, albacore, and tamago (egg)! Again we really appreciated the freshness of the bowl, but it really needed a spicy mayo or sauce to enhance it. I guess that was our oversight as that is an option you can add yourself.
I did feel that their sushi rice was a bit bland and could be kicked up a notch with both the burrito and the roll.
Anyhow, Sushi Co. is definitely a fresh choice in San Diego. If you try them, let us know what you think!
