Menya Ultra Ramen

Menya Ultra

Finally!  It took over a year, but we actually made it to Menya Ultra Ramen the past weekend.

So was it worth the wait?  Let’s see…

The Waiting Game

We were hanging out with our neighbor friends close by, so we decided to check it out in the afternoon.

Here’s what it looked like at 4:30 pm on Saturday (1 hour prior to opening).  These eager folks are just waiting for the opportunity to put their name on the waitlist!

Here’s their seating policy & hours.

You basically wait for the staff to mount this Ipad outside.  Once it’s there you can enter your name for a table.

They officially open at 5:30 pm and I believe they put the Ipad outside ~30 minutes prior to opening.

We actually got there at 5:30 pm, so there are already people ahead of us.  After checking in, you leave a cell phone number and they will text you a wait approximation.

The nice things it’s a hyperlink, so you can get updated statuses while you wait.  We decided to go shopping since our estimated wait time was 1hr 30 mins.

Our actual wait time was just under 2 hours.  But, we were excited!

Inside you will find several tables, the ramen bar, and a small kitchen in the back.

The service was prompt and helpful.

Ordering is pretty simple, after looking at the menu (see the bottom of the post), you can select the options you want.

Some extra settings as we had our kids with us.

Here’s Little L getting ready.

The Apps

We started with their chicken karage.  It was cooked well and had a nice crunch on the outside.

Both Jorgina and I wished it had a mayo dipping sauce, or a touch more salt.  But, it was really good nonetheless.

It’s was nice and moist inside.

The Ramen

Paiko Tantan Men – pork broth with spicy sesame chili oil, pork cutlet

I wanted to try something a little different today, so I ordered their Paiko Tantan Men.

IMG_6841

I broth was super rich and decadent.  It almost had a blue cheese flavor to it.  It had a nice spiciness from the chili oil, but it wasn’t overpowering.

The pork was fried well, but still moist inside.  The minced pork meat was nice as well.  I added some corn to it and an egg (though they forgot it initially).

The noodles are a little thicker than the Tonkotsu Ramen.

Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen
Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen

We had to try their traditional Tonkotsu Ramen as well, so Jorgina ordered this one.

I’m really glad she did because this one was divine.

The creamy pork flavor was heavenly and the noodles cooked just right.

We ordered extra chashu with this one, although in hindsight, I think the standard portion would have been enough.

We’ll definitely order this one again.

Final Thoughts

We enjoyed the Tonkotsu Ramen the best.  However, it was a fantastic balance between the two different ramens as they were both very different.

We’ll definitely be back and eager to try something new this time like the Miso.

We felt pretty heavy after this meal, but it’s a nice treat once in awhile.

If you visit, let us know what you liked!
