Barbusa – Little Italy

The other weekend, my wife and I had a free weekend to ourselves.  So, we decided to try something new and stumbled upon Barbusa in Little Italy (nearby downtown San Diego).

Inside it was bustling with lively conversations and delicious smells.

We were seated within viewing distance of the kitchen which is always a treat for us.

Adjacent to the kitchen was a showcase of their dry aged meats and cheeses.

Barbusa’s menu was nice.  It wasn’t too overwhelming and had enough variety to satisfy most anyone.

Upon ordering they brought us out a fresh flatbread.  It was nice, warm, and fragrant.

For an appetizer, we overheard their squash blossoms were excellent.  And…

they were!

We also tried their lobster bisque which was divine.  It was rich with flavor and had the depth needed in a seafood bisque.

The puff pastry was a nice addition on top.

Up to this point, everything was spot on.  But this crab pasta really blew me away.  The freshly made noodles were unbelievably good and the sauce was to die for!

The creaminess and chunks of crab were wonderful.  I’d order this again in a heartbeat.  But, make sure you wear some loose pants.  😉

The portion size was very good and we even had a little left overs.

My wife ordered their homemade spaghetti o’s!  Haha, not literally, but doesn’t it remind you of them?

Kidding aside, this dish was also yummy.  It wasn’t quite as good as my crab pasta, but the bolognese was chunky, flavorful, and had just the right amount of acid.

As you can see, the prices were very good given what we ordered.

Anyhow, I’m headed back soon in a couple of weeks when cousin Darren is visiting… speaking of which, he just launched a new food blog called – The Constant Wobbler.  Check it out!

  1. Great amount of quality food without breaking the bank! For some reason I though of an armory when I saw the hanging meats pic (blame it on the small mobile screen haha). I’m excited to read that Darren is continuing the food thing on his own! Happy eats!

  2. Haha yes we are excited to visit and try Barbusa with you again! So many places to try and not enough time…Thanks for the shout out too. See you in a few weeks!!

  3. I would definitely love to visit Barbusa – Little Italy restaurants in Europe and try out various food items there. The list of restaurants and dishes that you have shared seems interesting and amazing. Thank you for listing it together and sharing it with us.
